    so right!

God I’m so sick of Android bigotry. Android users are the most obnoxious fanboys I’ve ever met. They think they’re so damn smart for picking Android and anybody who uses an iPhone is an idiot. As a matter of fact, my friends and I had an idea for an iPhone app that didn’t exist, so we signed up for the iOS developer program and are making it ourselves. We hope to submit the app for approval within a few weeks. Wish us luck even though we probably won’t get far because we’re just stupid lemmings brainwashed by Steve Jobs.

      • Anonymous

Android users the obnoxious fanboys? You must be drunk. What about the Iphone people who have still bought an iphone 4 even though it is inferior in every aspect to phones like Samsung Galaxy S or the EVO 4G and STILL more expensive? Even after knowing about the antennae problem. If they are not hard-core-super-ultimate-mega-ultra-apple-fanboys then why did they buy the iphone over other superior phones? And BTW good luck with making that app. I hope that app gets approved during your lifetime

        • Anonymous

You see, you’ve proved my point exactly. So what if someone else has chosen to buy an iPhone? Despite its problems, it still has many advantages. But Android users are so obnoxious, they assume that if someone has made a different choice from them, they must be idiots. Not only do they think iPhone users are idiots, they go out of their way to insult them at every opportunity. Its this assumption of absolute superiority that just pisses me off.

          • Anonymous

I am certainly not an Android fanboy. I have a Nokia N95 and will buy the Nokia N8 in a few months. I just think that the iphone isnt ‘the’ phone anymore. It was in 2008 but there are far better phones out there which are better and cheaper then the iphone. The biggest reason why Windows runs on 91% of computers in the world is because it is “cross-platform” meaning it runs on many different types of hardware made by many different companies. Meanwhile iOS is confined to only that hardware which Apple ‘approves’. Somehow I see the same trend going on in the mobile OS world. And the way this trend’s going, Andoid is going to be the ‘Windows’ of the mobile world

          • That Tech Guy

Close, but Windows isn’t “Cross-Platform”. Cross-platform software means that said software will work on several different OS’s. Windows is more in the ballpark of “hardware all-inclusive” which means it’ll run on just about any hardware setup.

          • Anonymous

Such a naive line of thought that Android will go the way of Windows. It’s not 1996 anymore. And going by the massive profits Apple is making from iOS devices, I’d say they’re not concerned with your view of “the” choice phone.

N.B. I had an N95 a few years ago. Selling that POS with the wobbly hinge, fat profile, and constant software lockups was the best thing I did. Man, I hate S60.

Would love to know how you think the Galaxy S or EVO4G are superior in “EVERY” way, and yet cheaper too…

Wish people like you would stop pretending nothing gets approved on the app store. It has over 200k of apps— they’re clearly approving something..

        • http://twitter.com/ChrisPWill Chris Williams

I have neither an iPhone or an Android (I prefer to carry my laptop around and use a cheap phone) but I have to say – the antannae problem seems pretty minor to me. It’s a little inconvenient if you don’t have a cover (you have to make sure you hold it differently) but it doesn’t really interfere that much with the operation of the phone. Also, most apps get approved pretty quickly – it’s only when Apple feels that it threatens their own business that they stick their greedy maulers into the process.

The Samsung Galaxy S, other other hand, has a horrible UI and I hear the Android version is a little old. Can it be changed? If so, then it would be a awesome phone apart from the chassis (feels a little cheap). I like the fact that Android programming seems to be a little easier than iPhone programming (or at the very least, skills from other projects are more transferable).

          • Anonymous

galaxy S has the latest android 2.2 with FULL flash support and will be updated to android 3 in a few months

          • Gothdiva1

Umm. Wrong. Galaxy S runs Android 2.1 Eclair(which does not support flash), and is upgradeable to 2.2 Froyo(which does support flash). Which means that you may, or may not, get the upgrade in a few months. You’d know this if you actually owned one.

The UI is snappy, but easily changed or rooted to do so. :)

          • Anonymous

As I wrote in a comment above, I have a Nokia N95. A friend of mine has a Galaxy S and he had Android 2.2 installed on that. If the phone is upgradable to 2.2 then as far as I’m concerned, it has full flash support

          • Anonymous

There’s a difference between Average Joe getting an upgrade pushed to his phone, and Basement Earcle geeking the night away getting his custom ROM to stop crashing so he can run unofficial 2.2 on his Galaxy S…

      • Sdfese

        Agreed

      • Krickle Krockler

I have an iPhone, or more correctly an iCantPhone! I also cant load mp3′s or videos from more than one of my computers, without loosing what is already on there. The iPhone forums tell me that is reasonable, otherwise I might have media on my phone which I had lifted from someone else’s computer. And the unspoken bit “Steve Jobs doesn’t want me to do that, with his/my phone. There are people out there who would queue up for days, and pay hundreds of quid for a dog turd, if it had an Apple logo on it. Never ever again will I be held to ransom by the dubious practices of this control freak company.

        Androids Rock & Rule!

        • Anonymous

I have no idea what you’re talking about but you most certainly can load video or music onto your iPhone from a different computer. You don’t even need to jailbreak, you just need to… know what you’re doing, I guess.

          • BM

well, yes and only with itune installed….

          • Anonymous

How is iTunes a bad thing? It manages everything for you, and does a wonderful job. What syncing media management software has Google got to do the same job, which also lets me house all my media and books and apps, and buy/rent more from the same app? My Computer? Windows Explorer? Oh good.

If you don’t like it, don’t buy the phone..

      • Anonymous

Personally I don’t own a smartphone of any kind, but the bigotry I see is coming from ignorant fools who bought the whole “it’s magic” schpiel from High Lord Steve Jobs and now are desperately trying to defend their decision to buy a phone that is seriously flawed in design (functional, engineering design, not “bling”) and that is unable to function without the major handicap of being tied to one app store and one music store (which is the same store) – again, by design.

In other words, the Apple fanboys walked into the slave pens and put the manacles on themselves, and now they are screaming “Freedom is slavery” in the futile hope that free people will be suckered into slavery alongside them.

        • Anonymous

Again, you’ve proved my point better than I ever could. I’m not gong to defend my purchase of an iPhone – mostly because you’re just some shmuck on the internet and I could give a rat’s ass what you think about what phone I bought – but the fact remains that it’s my own decision.

If calling me an “ignorant fool”, “[in a] slave pen” and a “sucker” just because I bought a different phone from you isn’t being a bigot, I don’t know what is. Bigotry has nothing to do with what phone you think is best, it has to do with how you treat other people, and Fandroids are, for the most part, assholes.

          • Anonymous

He called you something and you called him something back. And now he’s the bad guy and you’re the good guy huh? I dont blame you. Most apple users are very emotionally sensitive. I bet this thread really hurt your feelings, seeing as you try to defend your/(steve job’s) phone whenever some tries to point a finger at an iphone. But you did great work. I’m sure Steve Jobs is really pleased with you. Maybe he’ll send you a free bumper for your phone so that you can actually ‘call’ people.

BTW I have a symbian smartphone so dont call me a fandroid.

          • Anonymous

Nice try. As a matter of fact, he is the bad guy here, and his words speak for themselves, as do yours.

          • Anonymous

            Must suck owning an N95…

          • Icesnake

Uh-huh. Where’s the Android bigotry you were ranting about? Oh, wait. I am not an Apple fanboy so I *must* be an Android bigot, right?

            You really are a fool.

        • Anonymous

Bahaha, you don’t own any smartphone, especially the iPhone 4, yet talk about how seriously flawed it is? You have no idea. Best not tell the world about this…

Some of you kids may not realise, but millions of us make a reasoned decision to purchase through iTunes without needing to be forced to do so…I feel sorry for you.

          • Icesnake

Don’t feel sorry for me. I don’t need pity from fools. I know *exactly* how flawed that design is, to the decibel of signal gain. I’ve worked in the network products division of the world’s largest chipmaker; I’ve built and operated radio transceivers on three continents, including special-purpose antennae, and studied antenna design theory to be able to design and build high-gain radio antennae from nothing but PVC pipe and enameled copper wire. The iPhone 4 antenna design is incredibly flawed, as any radio engineering professional will tell you – and the only thing it needed to make it perfectly fine is a half-millimeter of clear plastic, but Jobs turned down that idea because it didn’t meet with his stupid ideas that “form is more important tan function.”

If you made a “reasoned decision” to purchase from the iTunes store, then presumably you think there’s nothing wrong the the Chevy Corvair’s design, or the Ford Pinto’s, in terms of safety, and that Toyota computers that cause sudden acceleration are perfectly find as long as the car looks good, and a cell phone that can’t make calls when you hold it in the normal way is a “magical” design.

And this “kid” is 60 years old, and perfectly happy not to pay $30 a month for a 2GB datacap called “unlimited.”

Oh, and do let us know what it costs you to have the battery replaced in your iPhone. A new one for my feature phone is $14, and I don’t have to go beg a “genius” to change it for me.

      • Anonymous

The privacy-web thing is a proxy that a lot of people use to remain anonymous online. He didn’t put it there, the proxy did.

  • Lukebeee

I don’t want to have complicated conversations on the couch about my smartphone, I want to use it without getting a computer science degree.

    • Jonjonr6

That’s the problem with this comic.
It implies that your Android phone won’t do what you want it to out-of-the-box, that you won’t find any apps that will do the extra features you are looking for, and that you will ultimately have to take courses to be happy with your phone.

It also implies that with an iPhone, because you don’t have any ability to customize your phone you’ll just be satisfied with that and move on.

But just because you can write your own UI for an Android from ground up doesn’t mean you won’t just be happy with it as-is.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joeyjoejo1200 Joey Kessler

neet! what about jailbreaking it and doing it yourself, not unlike a custom rom, or is this just anti-apple nonsense?

      it’s anti-iPhone nonsense :) funny anti-iPhone nonsense… but nonsense :)

  • Shane

Haha, iphoners are getting defensive. The basic android phone can be used by anyone (my mom has one), but if you want to do more with it then android gives you that option if you’re smart enough.

    • Anonymous

You mean if you have the time and care enough. With AppInventor, you don’t need to be able to do more than drag some boxes around. And El Stevearino said the iPhone was revolutionary…

      • Anonymous

Show me something good from AppInventor that someone did by simply dragging some boxes around.

  • Guest

I love this comic. It shows why I prefer my iPhone to Android phones. And I’m sure it shows why Android users don’t like the iPhone.

And we’re likely convinced the other group is partially insane.

    • Anonymous

As a member of both groups, I’ve noticed we’re all completely insane.

  • IgnorantAndroidUser

HAHA this comic is funny because it’s impossible for an iPhone user to program than own apps!! Love it!

    • roflcopter

It’s funny because Android users are always trying to show everyone that their phone is better. It’s funny because the iPhone is the one every other smartphone compares itself to. I guess that’s what happens when you are on top.

      • Dudeman

Actually android phones have more market share than Iphone.

        • roflcopter

Having a bigger market share doesn’t make something better. It just means that alot of people went with Android because they were Buy One Get One.

“Hey look, we have a bigger market share than iPhone.” Yeah, too bad you had to give away 50% of your phones to do it.

I think the Yugo was a buy one get one free too and look how long they lasted.

    • Jtcurl08

you do know if you get the iphone sdk you can program on the iphone as well..

      • Fgross90isanidiot

Yeah sure… for $100. Oh AND you HAVE to use a mac. I’m not taking a side here but the Android sdk is free and you can develop and mac, windows, or linux.

  • Fgross90

uhh? except you can do more with an iphone? and way more if its jailbroke..

not to mention android users need to jump through hoops to change something

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000322946231 Jim Zakany

      Nope.

    • Fgross90isanidiot

I don’t have android or iphone but it doesn’t take a fanboy to know that you’re completely wrong. Both operating systems do have their advantages but iphone users seem to think that ios is completely superior to android. Well hate to break it to you, dumbass, but it’s not. Especially in terms of “doing more”

Name a single android phone that sold more than the iphone, if you’re comparing android to iphone.. thats a wrong flawed comparison. and last i checked android vs ios, ios is still on more devices. althought that’s changing quickly thanks to a new droid getting pushed out every week or so that makes the old ones obsolete.

  • guest2310

As Smackfrog said, Android fans are insecure about their phone, not to mention that the reason they bitch about the iPhone is probably because they could not afford it. As for developing in each platform, I’ve done both and I’m asking Android geniuses… Which vendor provides the best documentation, apis and tutorials for someone to get the most out of his/her phone while making money?

    http://developer.apple.com/devcenter/ios/index.action
    http://developer.android.com/guide/index.html

  • User

So, in other words – the Android user wastes a bunch of time trying to do something that probably isn’t that cool in the first place (and certainly not worth the time), and still fails. The iPhone user recognizes that it’s a dumb idea from the start.

    • http://darkchaplain-anotherstory.blogspot.com/ DarkChaplain

      Nope.
The Android user individualizes his phone using his own effort while the iPhone users are either too lazy, snobbish or too uninformed to help themselves.

I don’t want to own one of these new fancy phones, but I can say that my old one was far more indiviualized than any of those ‘new’ expensive toys.

  • Anonymous

I think the iPhone version couple should make out after deciding that their phones can’t do whatever it was. You know, to show ordinary (non-geeks) have lives outside the glow of tiny screens.

  • hans

As i have used both phones,
    android phone (rooted) iphone (jailbroken)
i sway more going to android phone
    1) more models to choose from
    2) you can post a request in a dev forum and wait for a couple of days someone will create what you want
    3) custom mods/themes
    4) numerous onscreen keyboard/pads
    5) lots of ways to install an app
    6) numerous home screens to choose from (adw launcher, launcher pro etc)
    and much more

with the iphone you just have to be content with the barriers that the phones has even if jailbroken

I know this is subjective but the conclusion I came to. Also after the new jailbreak comes out iboot will be able to run andriod on an iphone 4 anyway

I notice a trend that Android users in discussion forums tend to be feature checklist centric, and that iPhone users seem to only care that their phone meets their general needs. Neither group seems to appreciate the other’s mindset, and then inane flamewars ensue.

  • http://twitter.com/bemanistyle bemanistyle

my personal issue with the iPhone is that it doesn’t support widgets at all. Which really is a bit silly considering that Apple pioneered the concept of them on it’s mac platform. It’s the #1 feature the iPhone is missing that keeps me on the android platform without question.

Something like an antenna problem is comparable to the GPS locator crap that I have to deal with on my Samsung Vibrant.

At the core of it though both are great platforms for what they are, I just feel like Android has more of what I want in my phone out of the box than the iPhone does, and being open source it will always likely have a bit of a leg up.

  • Likuid K

The second comic should read, “Hey, I want to do X with my iPhone, do you know if that’s possible?” – “Yeah, there’s 5 apps that do that already”.

  • Derekvs

I think it’s all about personal preference and learning to live with the decision you made, after being sold on an expensive toy by tricky advertising.

I have the original T-Mobile G1 and I’m still using it. I bought an extended capacity battery that gives me about 4 days on a single charge (try that with an iPhone). It has some usability problems, but I’ve learned to work around them and they’re no longer a problem. I can type about 10X faster on its hardware keyboard than anyone can attempt on screen-based keyboard (yeah, some Android phones went that way too — horrible).

Anyway, I just think that it has to do with the end-user. I’m a techie, and I love tinkering with technology and writing my own software. On the other hand, you have a “phone” user, like my wife. She recently purchased the Android-based “Motorola Click” and absolutely hates it. She likes to play the occasional game or check our home security cameras while she’s at work, but she seems to have great difficulty just making a phone call. It lacks the physical “hang-up” button that my G1 has, so it takes some button-pressing and finger gestures to even hang up a call. She REALLY wishes that she would have avoided the “smart phone” craze and gone with a less-expensive and more usable “phone” that works the way a phone should. Smartphones work the way a computer should, running a phone app.

It reminds me of what everyone told me when I was shopping around for a dual-sport motorcycle. Sure, it can be ridden on and off-road, but it does neither very well. I bought one anyway and found out the truth of that statement the hard way.

It almost makes sense to have a smartphone and a standard flip-phone, rather than trying to make one device do it all.

Ah the fandroid community, bound so tightly by threads of unity. For example, not a single one among them can ever shut the fuck up about their god damn phones given an opportunity to trumpet about them. At least iPhone users understand that a phone is a phone, not a second, larger, more impressive penis.

Yeah, like the cult members by whom I was just surrounded at an Apple Store for a Citrix presentation. I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch and have owned a few Android phones, soon the HTC Desire, and I have to say that both platforms have their strengths and weaknesses. iOS is powerful, simple and popular, developers know the hardware they can base their software around and make impressive apps. Android I find easier to use, nicer to look at and more customisation friendly. Devs, however, have a massive range of phones to make apps for, so of course until all Android phones are 2.x or 3.x and have similar specs, Android won’t be as mighty as iOS. I hate to say that cos I love Android, it’s a near flawless OS in my opinion.

I love how apple fanboys n girls have a go at android users as if they are obnoxious for picking a different phone to the iPhone. This proves just how defensive and self righteousness you all are. It’s not android users that have a crack at your shitty inferior phone, it’s EVERYONE. Blackberry users, windows users, brick phone users, the lot. Because like it or not, the iPhone is a good phone, but it when it comes down to it its FAR more expensive then other more powerful phones out there that do more, allow to do more, and will do more then the iPhone. About the only thing the iPhone does better then other phones is play music and scroll..but hey, on my phone i’m free to customise those features in should i so wish!
