I’d go with Dell on that one

Might be funny if it were even close to being true. Hasn’t been for quite a while the price on the Mac is wrong and I have that game running on my Mac. Get over it WinFanBoi!

    • http://www.makeuseof.com Aibek

The price IS wrong, but the real one is still double of Dell’s.

      • http://www.scottbeckstead..com Scott Beckstead

Yeah on that, try walking into a store at your local mall with the Dell and getting it fixed or even just asking a question of tech support. Oh and half the features of the Mac are still wrong. Compare apples to apples people or don’t p;ay!

There’s no question that Macs are more expensive than normal PCs, but they’re worth it to some. Speaking of Dell support, I bought four laptops a few years ago. All of them still work fine and Dell’s (Indian) support has been mostly helpful the few times I have contacted them.

          WinFanBoi? Are we twelve? ;)

lol at the vitriol coming from all the apple fans accusing the pc fans of being fans. Its absofuckinglutely hilarious.

You should also check your facts, Macs can play (a relatively limited selection of) games but in order to have the power to play those games at decent settings you need to shell out for the $2200 iMac or better. Even then you only get an 8800GS, 2GB of RAM and a dual core processor.

By comparison, the low end computer from Alienware (and these guys are overpriced as far as PCs go) costs only $1300 and as a 9800GT, 4GB RAM and a quadcore processor. So don’t spout any crap about gaming.

As far as I’m concerned Macs are excellent products, if they weren’t priced out of the mainstream then I’d have a hard choice deciding between them and a PC. They know they can’t do that though because it would break the magic. If anyone can afford a Mac then what’s so special about it? For most people’s purposes Linux would be more than enough so why pay a premium on top of windows when you are only going to be using a comparable feature set. If Macs were priced the same as PCs they’d fail because without the prestige, the only reason to buy one is if you are a professional who needs it to run particular applications which are Mac only.

So very true. Macs are overpriced, and the features don’t even compare to what I could have on a PC for much lesser price. People buy Macs for looks, as far as I know. The price we are paying for the Macs goes into the ads and making it look pretty (and of course their profits), while the wares we pay for probably costs them much much less.

    macbook prog = $1999
hi-end pc laptop with equal or better settings/features = $650

    that’s approx 3 to 1.

macs are much simpler, cleaner, nicer, easier machines to use.
*final cut pro only runs on mac.

pcs are more techie, complex, and in-depth, requires more time out-of-box and customizing, but in the end is more what you’re used to…

so… the decision is really what do you need it for? and what’s your budget.

once you make a decision you’re pretty much sticking with it for life, you don’t see many mac people converting back to pc…

bu you certainly see pc people giving up and switching to macs… so fair enough.

the differences to me are not worth the price to pay, I am very comfortable with my pcs and knowledge of them.

Who cares… just buy and use what you want.
