To heck with children, I wonder how many CURRENT site visitors have no idea what the link is!
I can still feel how they spun together…
Really man… even I think many visitors won’t even have an idea about what the link refers to…. I loved that winding the tape back but it used to bore me too…. lol
I used to use a butter knive/flathead screwdriver depending on what i was “rewinding” or trying to fix
ahh the good old days of having your tape deck eat the damn tape, how many minutes/hours total in life were wasted winding the tape backup, HOPING it did not distort the sound during the best parts of your favorite song…
umm, I give up?…
seriously?? how old are you??
considering CDs have been the norm for the last 15 years or so….how old are YOU?
i knew what’s the connection between these 2 things..
if you said that CDs have been the norm for the last 15 years or so, the person who didn’t know these may be 15 years old or younger..
So a 3 year old 15 years ago would still understand this connection?
maybe not
LOL HE TOLD YOU
Well I am 15 years old and I remember my dad doing it but he was using his finger.
with his finger,,, hmmmm must have small fingers we’re talking a 90 min or 120 min cassette you just couldnt do it that long with a finger BELIVE AN OLD FART , your memory is either incorrect or he was just winding the slack in
I always had better luck using my pinky finger to be honest….
Worked better, but also hurt more.
What are those?
Haha, I still remember when I used to rewind those things, when I’ve nothing to do.. XD
reminds me of copying them with two jam boxes. now all you gotta do is snag songs off the interwebs. kids these days are spoiled… and FYI, I was born in 81 and graduated in 2000 (woot!)
Reynolds ball-point pen’s blue cap used to be the perfect fit..
For me I remember a butter knife worked better than the pencil.
Be Kind…. Rewind! xD
BIC Pen forever.
omg… but i always used me pinky…
FTR, I’m 26 and I get the connection. Now, MY kids may never get it but don’t count out us 20somethings! I also know that “Beta” was before VHS and that my parents played their vinyl records on a record player (and yes, I have seen them and no, I don’t collect them to be “ironic”).
Just wait….FYI Beta was actually a superior tape format to VHS quality but lost in the consumer market mainly due to marketing. Beta technology is actually still used and was principally used as the broadcast master format of the programming you watch on TV in both analogue and digital form professionally for over 10 years.
Thanks for the clarification!
It was kind of the same situation we recently saw with Blu-ray and HD DVD.
REWIND!
Ahhh… I cannot tell you how many cassettes my Walkman ate when I was kid. Glad I always my “emergency repair pencil handy.” lol
True, so what? I’m sure you don’t even know what’s that thing your grandpa kept in the basement. It’s life.
Darn, why did I never think of this tool? Would have left me with intakt pinkies now. But isn’t the pencil too slim?
also using the eraser to clean your heads
gosh , we used to turn the damn tape with those ugly pencils … i’m pretty sure our children will never ever find out about this magical way ….
I’m still using them in my Volvo….
The only way to rewind with dead batteries in player )) really nice to remember
wow I’m 18, I’ve never used one, and I still know what the connection is.
My wife and I got a kick out of this.
Who cares?!
Im 17 and I remember how I used to do it with my little finger..
I’m 15 and I got it…my pinky finger always worked better though.
I remember rewinding with my pencil to save my walkman’s batteries xD
I’m 20, and though it took me a while, i got it. I’m pretty sure i’m at the very border of people who will get it though ;_;
If you want a better “test” ask anyone under the age of 21 to change the film (roll) in a camera.
Oh those spoiled children who don’t have to waste their time winding their magnetic tapes back up. It’s almost like a whole generation cursed the damned things, and came up with a better product. I wonder what other terrible things our children have to go through because of our innovations.
I’m such an old fart that I remember “record albums” that really were albums, books with pocketed pages for 10-inch 78RPM disks. The disks were _not_ vinyl, but a brittle hard rubber composition that would shatter if dropped. The first vinyl LP I bought was monophonic, because my family didn’t own a stereo player. I didn’t find out until a few years ago that I was born in the year that the ENIAC was dedicated.
Why didnt any one ever invent a mini crank winder for the thing. Guess that wouldnt sell now huh?
my tape deck had a REWIND button….
Rewind was the cause of the problems, afetra rewind the tape was all over the place.
I know what it is, but those pencils don’t work
Keep in mind there are clueless people in every generation. Even in the cassette days there would be people who didn’t use them (or fix them!)
Then again, how many of “our children” would even recognize the item at the top of the image, let alone how the two items relate.
How many of our children would no what the object @ the bottom is ?
I’m 14 and even I could tell from the first look at what you use this for you obviously had to write a letter on what to do with that gizmo to the apple store Right?
I rocked out to a walkman cassette player until 2004! I loved it!
I used the cap of a pen
*facepalm*
i always used my thumbwho new a pencil would be faster
you use the pencil to rewind the tape what dumb person dosnt know what
Then your kids are relly dumb
