LOL. That’s just absurd.
That plug is almost as long as my mobile speakers, except that my speakers are louder.

Great Joke, unless the woman who wants headphones like that for earing purposes. xD
Out front, it looks more like a tweeter than a speaker.
But judging the size and the letter “R” (right), that is an indication there is a pair, so more likely a headset replacement that connects to a cord (can be available at various lenght). Modular design probably allow more granular component replacement instead of buying the new piece all together?
If this comes from Apple, I think they are going in the wrong direction. They should design cordless headsets which is much cooler.
