      Well, the Mac example isn’t true. You *never* pay for an update in Mac OS.

      The Mac example is wrong. There have been 14 Mac OS upgrades in the last 3 years and the only one that cost money (Snow Leopard, 10.6) cost $29.

    My mac gets software updates nearly once a week, but the last time Apple’s asked me to pay $99 for one was four years ago in 2007. Even Snow Leopard was a $29 upgrade.
