The crowdsourcing platform is being dubbed a ‘Wikipedia for subtitles’, and just like the well-known encyclopedia, it will call on volunteers to caption and translate web videos from around the world.

Following the recent release of the official YouTube app for iPhone and iPod Touch, Google has launched a significant update for the app, which is now compatible with both the iPad and the iPhone 5. Aside from the interface change and the added device support, the official YouTube app now supports AirPlay, and comes with many features that were not present on the old built-in YouTube app.

Do you speak a European language? If so, it’s going to be easier to watch videos on YouTube from now on. YouTube has added six new languages to its automatic captions feature, which thus far included only English, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. The newly added languages are French, Italian, German, Russian, Portuguese and Dutch, and captions in these languages will now appear automatically in videos when you click the Closed Captions button.

It's insanely late for Nintendo and YouTube to be offering this but you can now install the official YouTube app on your Wii. Watch the best cat videos from the comfort of your couch. Just fire up the YouTube channel on your Wii. If you're signed in, you'll see your subscriptions and playlists; if not, you'll see the standard categories from YouTube. The visual style is not Wii-sque at all, which is probably a good thing in this case.

Every now and again it’s fun to showcase a particular YouTube user in the regular Stuff to Watch column, and this week it’s British comedian and Internet funny guy Adam Buxton. Unlike the average YouTube success story, Adam was already known for his career on British TV and as part of the comedy duo Adam and Joe before taking his comedy online.
