Xbox 360 users, soon you'll no longer have to struggle with the awkward math that the Microsoft Points system currently offers. Microsoft recently told tech pub The Verge that it will ditch the system in preparation for its new console release. Instead of forcing users to convert their real-world cash to the imaginary currency, Microsoft will start using gift cards and vouchers holding real currency.

Linux gaming rigs? Yup, they’re happening. With Valve’s Steam on Linux and a forthcoming Valve Steambox using Steam to run Linux games, the future is looking up for gaming on Linux. You can even install Ubuntu and Steam on a computer today, plugging it into your TV and using the big picture mode interface. The missing piece of the hardware puzzle is a controller. Luckily, Microsoft’s ubiquitous Xbox 360 controller functions well with Linux.

I used to play most of my games on the computer. All of that changed when the next (that is, current) generation of consoles came out. For one, these devices had a considerable assortment of games and great graphics. Another consideration - perhaps most vital in putting me over the edge towards console gaming - was the price-quality. In terms of hardware, consoles function as an opposite of gaming PCs.

Thanks to the release of successive versions that take advantage of improvements in computing technology, Civilization has been a part of my life for years, so to finally get the chance to play it wherever I happened to be was something I was hardly going to pass up. Trials Evolution is the sequel to 2009’s critically acclaimed 2D physics racer, Trials HD. Of course, veteran gamers will recognise the lean-and-land gameplay from games of yore, including the original title in the Trials series that popped up online in 2000. The game is available exclusively to Xbox 360 owners via Xbox Live and rarely does a non-retail game steal so much of my time and attention.

Electronics can be evil. A short time ago I wrote an article about using the Xbox 360 as a media center. I concluded that it wasn’t the best choice. Sensing my betrayal, the 360 promptly kicked the bucket, leaving me without the Netflix I craved. Rather than replace the 360, I decided buy to a competing media center, the Roku. My verdict?
