In the last couple of months, Steam has been getting a lot of attention. Not necessarily because of the games that it's been carrying, but because of its expanding support of different operating systems. If you haven't heard already, Steam has made official plans to support Linux, and has already made substantial progress with their beta Linux client. It really won't be too long before the Steam client is stable.

While desktop Linux may be a tempting platform, there's one thing stopping a lot of people from making the plunge: PC gaming. Like it or not, Windows is the de facto platform for PC gaming. You can't count on Linux supporting your favorite games, but you may be surprised: some Windows games work on Linux using the Wine compatability layer.

I’ve been calling Linux Mint my main OS, an experience which has absolutely blown my mind. Linux Mint simply works beautifully, without any of the quirks that drove me up the wall in Ubuntu. However, I have observed that there are no alternatives (yet) for some of the programs that I call indispensable and have grown to love in Windows.

Do you love Spotify's free version, but tired of needing Wine just to listen to the music? Good news - Spotify now offers a free version specifically for Linux users. Or at least, users of Debian, Ubuntu and their variants. Sorry Fedora fans. Spotify gives you access to millions of songs, for free. Unlike Pandora or Last FM though, you can listen to entire albums on demand.
