Latest in winamp

I’m a big music junkie. If I’m sitting at my computer and there is no music coming out of the speakers, then it actually puts me on edge a bit and I end up unable to focus. Whether I’m reading, browsing, playing a game, or typing away at an article, I need music and I need to be able to control it comfortably. I’m therefore constantly on the prowl for the perfect music player. But here’s the thing: I’ve already been through all of the big name household programs.

Winamp is a Methuselah among the third party Windows media players. First released in 1997 and originally developed by Nullsoft, it has become a subsidiary of AOL in the meantime. However, it hasn't lost any of its charm and we have elected it as one of our best audio tools for Windows. Winamp remains a beast of a media player with an extensive, yet fully customizable interface.

Having reviewed nearly half a dozen Android music apps over the past year, I find it interesting that they’re all so great in their own unique ways. You’ve got the minimalist players that don’t even have playlists; you’ve got the big bloated ones that take up tons of space. Then you’ve got Winamp, which is a middle-of-the-road compromise that does everything you’d expect and not much more.

There are some desktop applications that suck the nostalgia right out of our hearts. mIRC maybe? Off the top of my head: AOL Instant Messenger, Paint Shop Pro, BearShare, WS_FTP, ICQ, and RealPlayer. Most of these are considered to be dinosaurs by today's standards. Another name that may ring bells is Winamp.
