Google+ has released Hangouts, which allows group video chats and therefore quickly became the pinnacle of video chat clients. Despite the amazing idea, not all of us can hang out with out friends on Google+ yet as some of these friends may never sign up for Google+ at all. This is where Social Hangouts comes in.

The Internet telephone company, Skype, has released the long awaited iPad version of its iOS app in the iTunes App Store on Monday. Although Skype users could always use the iPhone version of the app on the iPad, this iPad version brings Skype connections full screen, and for iPad 2 users it provides video calls over the Internet.

Last week Google announced improvements to Gmail that will enable users to make multiple calls to computers or phone lines from their inbox. The ability to call from Gmail is currently only available in the US, and now that functionality includes making and receiving multiple calls as well as a new “hold” button for pausing the active conversation.

What would you do if you had multiple Skype accounts and wanted to log into them simultaneously? Before, that would require altering Program Files or installing multiple instances of Skype itself, but I’ve uncovered a much simpler way to accomplish this.

Skype have just released a new Mac client to allow users to make group video calls and do group screen sharing. Windows and Mac users have had beta access to group video calls for some time, but this is the first official Mac client to enable the functionality.

Facebook has just announced new video chat features using its long-awaited Skype integration. The announcement come hot on the tail of Google’s Google Plus release, which features group video hangouts. Facebook users can try the new feature straight away, by clicking on “Get it now” in this video calling preview.

Skype has just released a major update for Android users, with the Android application now supporting video calls. It’s a big step which now puts the Android application functionality on a par with the iPhone application. But the new app doesn’t support all Android phones and you would also need a front facing camera.

It’s a free application that lets you chat with your friends from all your other favourite chat clients, including Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Chat, Twitter, and many more.
