Downloading a movie is sometimes like heading into Oblivion. You have no certainty of exactly what you’ll end up with. Be it a crappy movie in great quality or (even worse) a great movie in crappy quality.
For instance, you’ll never want to watch your favorite movie in cam format, which sounds as if you’re standing in an empty factory hall. Quality matters - higher definitions are there for a reason.
If you’re in need of a great script, check IMDB. On the other hand, if you’re looking for more information about the download itself, there are two things you’ll need to do.
What happens when BitTorrent meets Hamachi meets remote desktop meets networking? Well you get something similar to Remobo. Remobo lets you create an IPN which is an Instant Private Network.
Lets see what you can do with an IPN, Remobo and how to set it all up.
Remobo allows you to:
This week on the podcast I’m talking to Jerry Kidd, one of Make Use Of’s newest writers, about a great tool to help you sell your home online. I’m also looking at some Make Use Of articles about Bit torrent, bookmarklets, and syncing. Plus, a first look at the latest Twitter clone, identi.ca.
I’d love to hear from you. Send me your MP3 files containing comments about the show, reviews of your favourite websites or just general chitchat. I’ll choose a few to play on the show each week. Send them to podcast [at] makeuseof [dot] com.
Transmission is a free and open source bit torrent client that runs natively on multiple operating systems and is available in many languages worldwide. Transmission is very lightweight and probably one of the best bit torrent clients around. Transmission was first released on September 15th 2005 and has came quite a long way since its first release.
If you use Ubuntu then you will most likely know of Transmission because it is the default bit torrent client.
Torrents are great, I think no one disagrees with me there. There are plenty of ways you can make use of torrents. But they have restrictions. As with all P2P downloads, you must use additional software and although they’re very simple to use, torrents will never be on the same level of ‘easy’ as direct download links.
This need for extra software may be trivial in most cases, but keeps the format away from platforms where it’s impossible to install this software. So what am I talking about? What platform doesn’t support torrent software? Well, I’m mostly talking about consoles, but also about mobiles.
As an “active media trader” (a polite term for someone who downloads and shares “lots of things” - wink-wink!), I have a list of applications that I use on a regular basis. One of them is Limewire which (almost) always gives me good file searching results.
Recently, I came across an application which looks like, works like, and even sounds like Limewire. It has all of LimeWire’s abilities and more; it finds and shares files, connects to six ultrapeers networks, does torrents, integrates with iTunes, is chat-able and skin-able, and is totally free. It It’s called FrostWire. Just like Limewire, Frostwire is also built on Java so they can both work on multiple platforms.
I format my Mac once a year, either because it’s clunked up with old .plist files or because I just feel like performing a zero-out on my hard disk. One good thing about owning a Mac is never having to worry about installing drivers after reformatting. So that’s one problem avoided. Having a checklist of applications to install is quite handy to get my Mac up and running as quickly as possible. So, I’d like to share the applications I consider to be essential:
(1) NeoOffice
Torrents are by far the most popular form of file sharing. People use them to download music, movies, software, books, games etc. In case you’re new to this then go straight to our mini tutotrial at the end of the post. As for all others, I would like to introduce you to a number of coolest torrent tools out there.
TORRENT SEARCH
(1) YouTorrent / PizzaTorrent - The only torrent search engines you will ever need. Both of them let you search for torrents on several popular torrent sources simultaneously (Mininova, The Pirate Bay, IsoHunt etc.) Search results can be sorted by various criteria, i.e. file size, number of seeds, peers and category (Pizzatorrent only).
