Ever since Pinterest came around, I started re-discovering the power of bookmarklets. Recently, Erez told you all about why you should use more bookmarklets and less browser extensions, and while I definitely still use several extensions, there are some websites that work better with bookmarklets. Custom Buttons allows you to turn simple bookmarklets into nice Firefox toolbar buttons.

Recently I had cause to install some free video conversion software and was amazed to find so many attempts to fool me into installing additional software, not to mention attempts to upsell at the end of the installation wizard. It’s getting to be beyond a joke now, with every other free (and sometimes trial) app or utility having these irritating options built in. But what is worse is the presumption that I want to install these options by default.

Several weeks ago, Google launched a brand new Google bar in all its services. This new bar replaces the famous (or infamous?) black bar on top of all Google products, and includes a slick dropdown menu, a new Profile menu and a generally cleaner look. Surprisingly, not everyone can enjoy the new bar yet and Google also “forgot” to make the bar customizable.

To provide you with even more information while browsing the web, Google recently released a new IE, Google Chrome, and Google Toolbar extension, entitled Google Related. The extension works automatically when you visit a site, similar to how you do manual searches for a particular topic you’re reading about.

The Add-on Bar was introduced in FireFox 4 and replaced the Status bar. The status bar was primarily removed to make the most of the browser real estate- which makes many of us wonder why the newly introduced Add-on bar is absolutely un-optimized in terms of saving the browser screen space. Three addons attempt to fix that shortcoming.

I have to admit that I’m generally not much of a fan for toolbars. In fact I hate them, thanks to their spam-related nature. Even those that weren’t spam weren’t on my nice list either. I just felt like the features weren’t of any real use. However, there happens to be a very elite number of toolbars that do make it into my nice list, and the one we’re talking about today is one of them.

Almost two years ago, Apple finally set up a way for developers to create extensions for its fast and easy-to-use web browser, Safari. You can access available extensions by clicking on the Safari Extensions Gallery in the menu bar. That will take you to a gallery page with over three dozen extensions to choose from.
