Some ideas are so simple that you are left wondering why anyone didn’t think of it before; especially Google which has YouTube under its large umbrella. The idea I am talking about here relates to taking down notes while you are watching a video. Anyone who has done an online educational course with video lectures, or let’s say, has taken the help of a video tutorial will vouch for the value of note taking while watching a video.

Twitter like all other social media is a virtual Aladdin’s cave. It is a gateway to riches. But just like in the story, this Aladdin’s cave is also booby-trapped. Use it right and you will come away the genie of knowledge ready to do your bidding. Use it wrong and you will be a casualty of wasted time. So, ‘rub’ it just right.

There are wonderful educational apps out there, many of which cost $10, $20, or even more. I’m not here to say they’re not worth it – you’re going to pay much more for a textbook – but it’s also possible to find cheaper apps that nonetheless provide a great learning experience for kids of all ages. For the list below, I tried to stick to apps that cost $5 or less, and all except one offer a free version too.

If you're a student or someone who takes notes a regular basis, you may be interested in a fun and even artistic movement called Sketchnoting. Sketchnoting is like notetaking, but it includes visual notes as well as words. It's a way of conceptualizing ideas, information, and other data on paper (or a digital tablet) beyond the traditional text medium of outlining. Sketchnoting, or visual notetaking, is for clustering information and capturing big ideas.

Now, nearly 3500 videos, let’s call them micro-lectures, on video will be instantly accessible to students worldwide for free. The thousands of videos cover a wide variety of topics from K-12, humanities, and more advanced topics in math, finance, and economics.

We are seeing more and more iPads in schools. They offer all kinds of possibilities for new ways to teach students. Because they are so portable, it is much easier for students to bring them anywhere they go, and bring the learning with them. The iPad is even useful for young students because of its intuitive, easy to understand user interface. Almost anyone can pick one up and know exactly how to use it.

If you thought that flash cards (or flashcards) were only for students in vocabulary training, you wouldn’t be more wrong. Flashcards can be used to memorize anything that requires retention through repetitive repetition; and that by its very definition anything you want to learn and commit to memory. True, flashcards gained their name and fame with phonics and spelling testers, but try it out on anything which you want to learn, and you have your most effective study guide.
