The new Spotify has arrived, with version 0.8.0.952 and higher, and adding apps to the music streaming mix. A beta version containing the majority of the apps ready for launch was made available, which gave me ample opportunity to put all them all through their paces in advance. The following five Spotify apps are the ones which I strongly urge all Spotify users to install immediately.

Spotify, the music service that is taking the world by storm, is rolling out some awesome new features. They recently added support for third party apps for developers, and now they are adding some killer new features for end users. The first of these is predictive search. When a user now begins typing something into the search box, Spotify will attempt to predict what the user is going to search for and offer suggestions.

One of the great things about Spotify is the sheer amount of music it gives you access to. Every artist, song, and album is pretty much at your fingertips. Since there is so much, however, sometimes it can be difficult finding songs you might be interested in. But what if you could find quality music that has been pre-rated for you?

Music is a very interesting space for me because it seems like major players rise and fall every few months. Whether it’s Pandora, Grooveshark, Apple’s Ping, Turntable.fm, or the eventual restructuring of MySpace, music will continue to progressively become more fun and social. Right now, Spotify seems to have the hot hand, mainly because of its ease of use and integration with Facebook.

In 1981, MTV launched, with the first ever video broadcast. Now, 30 years on, we don’t really need MTV any more. Why let someone else behind the scenes pick what music you should listen to (or watch, in this instance) when you can create your own personalised music channel using your existing playlists?

Do you know what the problem is with YouTube as a music-listening platform? It wasn’t really built for that, and because it wasn’t, it lacks a few key things that a typical music platform would have, like the ability to save music playlists. YouTube does technically have a playlist feature for music, but I’ve found a simpler way to do things, and it’s called SongSprite.

For those of us with access to Grooveshark, life is pretty good. We can listen to quite a bit of amazing music for free, simply by picking a playlist and kicking back to enjoy the tunes. Sometimes, you could be tempted to think things on the online music scene couldn’t get any better. But then someone comes along and creates a little tool which completely makes your day just by adding a little bit more awesome to the mix.
