Please welcome the latest – and for the moment the last – recruits to the Make Use Of writing squad. We’ve now decided to put our recruiting on hold for at least a few months while we put our existing staff through their paces to see if they’ve got what it takes to give you the high quality articles you’ve come to expect from Make Use Of.

There were a couple of last recruits from July and we will introduce them when their first articles come out.

**************************************

I’m Jerry and by day I am the Training Director for Pacific Union GMAC Real Estate located in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am also a California real estate broker with over 22 years experience in all phases of real estate brokerage including sales, brokerage management and I was even the IT Director for a large regional real estate company.

Being dually addicted to real estate and technology, my passion is to combine the two in ways that help real estate agents do a better job of working for their clients and also to help them make a better living for themselves. Towards that end I started a real estate and technology blog in January.

I am excited about writing for Make Use Of and already have my first article published. As I explained to Mark, it’s probably good for a guy as old as me to be here as it may be helpful to other members of my generation, the Boomers, as I will bring my perspective to the table.

*********************************

I’m Ken and I’m very happy to be a writer here at Make Use Of. I’m your average geek who loves discovering new websites and playing a lot of games. I’ve always been interested about the internet and have been striving to learn as much as possible ever since I caught wind of it.

I’m currently taking classes at a local community college in hopes of getting a job at something web related. Hopefully, my work here can inspire me for the future.

I think of myself as a very social person, and although I might not comment a lot about the social websites, I spend hours each day stumbling, digging, tagging, and reading.

Learning as much as I can is my goal here and all these social websites are the perfect places to learn more. I do not have a blog at the moment, mainly because I’m too lazy busy to set one up, but I’ll alert everyone when I do get started.

**********************************

Hi, I’m Saikat and I call myself a ‘pseudo-geek’ in a writer’s garb. Moving away from a background in Business Management, I am now trying to teach myself Instructional Designing. A frequent contributor to citizen news websites, I also have avid leanings towards technology, health and the environment.

When I am not not wetting my quill you can find me ’stumbling’ and ‘digging’ the net for informational tidbits or just scouring around for the next big trekking adventure. Writing is now not only a form of self expression for me but also a means to improve myself through the bits of wisdom I gain each day from the written and read word.

If you have a grouse, you can also catch me on my personal blog ruminating about the positves in our world.

*************************************

Hi, I’m Abraham, I’m a nineteen-year-old college student, born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I was introduced to free open source software (FOSS) a few years ago when my copy of Internet Explorer took a nose dive and a friend introduced me to Firefox. Naturally, I loved it and in time my computer was loaded with FOSS. Then in late 2007, I took the plunge into Linux and haven’t looked back since.

When not preaching the virtues of open source, I enjoy reading classic Sci-Fi, playing obscure video games, dabbling in programming and of course writing.

***********************************

Hi everyone, my name is Blake. I was born a geek, and I’ve been messing around with computers since I was 3. Since then I’ve become a computer addict (part time web designer, full time tech geek), constantly learning about new technologies and figuring out ways to do things better.

I write about my thoughts and activities regarding Linux, Google, useful programs, web development and computers in general on my personal blog, The New Geek.

I also like playing chess and discussing politics; other than that, when I’m not on my computer I think about the quickest way to get home so I can get back on my computer.

*************************************

Hi. My name is Charnita and I’m a Kansas Army wife. I’m currently a homemaker with a sincere passion for blogging and social media. I enjoy surfing the internet and discovering new social media sites. I have been an internet junkie for about 3 years now.

With there being nothing here to do in Kansas, the majority of my spare time is spent online and I’ve managed to start up six websites. My latest site is my Social Web Tools blog, which I first started in an effort to pass the time whenever my husband is away. Right now I’m focusing on sharing my internet discoveries with my readers and learning more about internet marketing.

Besides the internet I love music, animals, video games (mostly old school stuff), and bugging my husband (something I do quite well). I’m pretty nervous about writing for such a large reader base here on Make Use Of, so I’m hoping to adjust quickly!

Please take a moment to welcome our five latest new additions to the Make Use Of team. They have all had articles published and Jimmy even appeared on the podcast on Sunday!

I’m Lee and as soon as I get the homemade ectoplasm off my face I’ll be a regular contributor to Make Use Of.

I’m a technician with fifteen years of experience in the trenches, battling computer evil from behind the retail service counter. Hopefully you’ll find my articles informative and not-too-stuffy. I may get a little opinionated from time to time, but that comes with the territory, am I right?

I always welcome questions and will do my best to answer yours (as long as it’s not “What is the average windspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?”). You can track me down on Unsightful, my personal tech blog for the not-quite-so-technical.

My name is Nick and I am a college student from New Jersey. I am an Information Technology major, freelance blogger, and web designer. In particular, I enjoy new technology, social networking, open source software, and internet media.

In my free time, I listen to podcasts including the great Make Use Of Podcast. I also run Tech Network where I, as well as others, blog about gaming, web development, social networking, open source software, internet news, and breaking tech news.

I discovered Make Use Of not too long ago and immediately decided that I wanted to write for the site. I am happy to be here and hope to add to the massive index of knowledge and information.

My name is Jimmy and I am extremely pleased to join the Make Use Of team. I’m a bit like a fan who gets to join the band because I have been reading the site for quite a while. I love the other authors and the community they have built.

I have always loved computers and technology, probably beginning with a program my dad, a computer guy in his own right, helped me write in SuperDOS (it included a picture made with asterisks). Since then, whether it was the internet, laptops, desktops, or more recently, the iPhone, I have tried to keep up with the latest technology. I’ve been blogging about technology now for over a year on my personal blog about websites, cool apps, and college.

In my spare time, I’m a biology major at George Mason University and I plan on becoming a research microbiologist.

Hi, I’m Kevin, a college student from Southern New Jersey. I’ve been using and building computers ever since I could get my hands on one, and it’s all progressed from there.

I enjoy blogging, podcasting, and designing websites. In my free time, I write tech articles, play Xbox 360, surf the web, and listen to podcasts. Some of the specific topics I focus on are Blackberry applications, open source solutions, net neutrality, and VOIP.

I am Managing Editor at techNETWORK, a site created by my friend and fellow Make Use Of writer Nick Volpe. Check out my posts on there as well as my personal blog at www.KRichardSays.com.

Hi, my name’s Simon and I’m a student from Belgium. I’ve always enjoyed computers and other IT-related stuff. As I grew up using an Apple, bought my first Windows PC and was later introduced to Linux, I’m a guy who can enjoy every platform.

My other passions are gaming (I own a PS3, Wii and an Xbox 360 – I’m still a Sony fanboy, though), watching movies, series and anime. Besides that, I like to read and just love music. Chances are that I will go and study game-development in England.

At the moment I’m working to get my blog started. As soon as it’s ready I’ll make sure you hear about it!

As we mentioned yesterday, May was quite a month for new writers coming on board with us to share their knowledge with the Make Use Of readers. Here are four of them introducing themselves.

Varun Kashyap

I am Varun from India. I am passionate about computers, the internet and the technologies that drive them. I love to discover new web applications and sites that increase my productivity and make my work easier, faster and fun.

I generally prefer open source software for the simple reason that I like their philosophy and they have so much more to offer than the proprietary ones.

I have a blog where you can find me explaining computers and technology in simple words, at the same time I try to include hacks, tips and tricks for people who wish to go that one step further.

Bill Mullins

My name is Bill from Toronto, Canada, and I’m glad to be aboard as part of the great team at Make Use Of. It’s a pleasure to be associated with all of these talented people.

I have been involved with the computing scene since before the days of the first PC; so yes I’ve been around practically since the days of the dinosaurs. Well, at least since the days of the Commodore VIC-20 and the Texas Instrument TI 99/4A (my first “real” computer) back in 1981.

Then through the halcyon days of 5.25″ single sided floppies, $800 10 Megabyte Hard Drives, 300 Baud modems, Bulletin Boards and the birth of what we now know as the Internet. It’s been quite a ride!

I started writing in the early 90’s primarily for business publications on business related issues, before switching over to Blogging 5 years ago. I now focus primarily on system and Internet related security issues.

Check out my blog at billmullins.wordpress.com

Ellie Harrison

Hi! I am Ellie, a 20-something from New Jersey. I have always liked computers and the internet since my introduction to them many years ago. I enjoy learning more about new technology, and tips and tricks that can help me work more efficiently.

When I am not working or taking graduate school classes, I enjoy reading and exploring my favorite city in the world, New York City!

When you get a moment, check out my blog, Ultimate Geek Girl, where I blog about WordPress, tech tips and tricks and new applications and programs to help make life easier and fun!

Will Mueller

I am Will, a complete computer nerd and geek. I have been using computers for far too long and have used them to do numerous different types of things.

I have specifically been developing in web design and programming free physics and math applications. I as well enjoy finding odd things on computers and “editing” them.

I enjoy writing articles specifically on freeware, windows tips and tricks, general internet tips, etc.

You can see my blog, Advanced Tech Solutions, here.

<img src="http://makeuseof.com/images/logo/announce.jpg" alt="Announcement.jpg"align="left" /> Please welcome three new writers to the Make Use Of team – Anthony, Jackson and Mackenzie. While Anthony will be joining the rest of us and focus on web-based apps, Jackson and Mackenzie will start off MakeUseOf Mac and Linux sections, respectively. Obviously there’s more to computers and the web than just plain old Windows and so we’ve figured it would be best to expand a little and offer our readers a bit more choice in their reading. Actually, Jackson has already reviewed couple of Mac apps: a universal “my status” manager MoodBlast and a GTD program known as Things.

So without further ado, I’ll now hand the floor over to the new guys.

My name is Anthony and I’m a high-school student in California. I love all kinds of sports and I also enjoy writing. In addition to writing for MakeUseOf, I write on my own blog – check it out at Radicitus.Blogspot.Com. I have a really ‘open’ writing style so don’t be surprised if I crack a lot of jokes. Well, looking forward to writing for you guys!

Hi, I’m Jackson and I’m a medical student with an addiction to surfing the Web, tech and gadgets. I’m a Switcher with a constant love-hate relationship with my Mac. Basically an all-rounder who loves to try everything at least once.

I’m a sophomore studying Computer Science at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, originally from Pittsburgh, PA. I can’t remember ever not being a nerd, but I can remember trying to hide it behind really girly clothes. The books and computers always gave it away, so I give up. I’m a computer geek. I’m a bit of a programmer, but I haven’t found a language I really love yet. I have found an operating system I love though. I’ve spent about 20 hours a day using Linux every day since July 2006, and I’ve learned a lot in the process that I’m willing to share.

Please join me in welcoming three new writers to the Make Use Of team – Tina, Shankar and Travis. You will already have seen the first articles by Tina and Shankar, and Travis.

So without further ado, our writers will now introduce themselves :

Tina [tinsie.net/Recommended/]

My name is Tina, I’m 29 and I’m a tech addict. In “real life” I studied biology and am currently working as a scientist with merely a couple of months away from making my PhD in biochemistry. At the lab I’m responsible for all computer hardware and software, and with shame I admit I can’t always solve all the issues all the time. Hey, I’m a biologist, and I have yet to meet a computer that responds when I talk to it.

During my leisure time I run several online projects, one being my blog Recommended. Apart from the above I enjoy nature, architecture, photography, alternative/pop/rock concerts and couch surfing.

I got in touch with computers at a very young age, playing silly games on a workstation sitting next to a never forgotten Cray. To be honest, I hated the simple graphics of computers back then. But I was very impressed by all the equipment that filled the computing rooms at my dad’s workplace. As a kid I couldn’t help wondering why something so powerful produced such a dull visual output.

Fortunately, there has been a lot of progress and I’m looking forward to presenting you some of that. I will focus on “desktop modding” and “firefox”, but might also post about other things now and then.

Travis [www.tquizzle.com]

Hi, I’m Travis and I am a marketing, technology & business entrepreneur on a lifelong journey to create independent wealth and happiness.

Computers have become more than just a hobby. I work as a “Network Engineer” for a major Health System from 8-5 and I also run a small web design and development company in my spare time focusing on Web Standards and hacking to death the amazingly brilliant WordPress application.

I also love martial arts. I am currently a senior student under the instruction of Sensei Nicholas Guinn at Guinn Martial Arts. While I currently only take AikiJitsu, I am very interested in many martial arts including but not limited to Capoeira, Judo, Jujitsu and Lua.

Shankar [www.killertechtips.com]

My name is Shankar Ganesh, I’m a 16 year old student and a part time blogger. I’m really excited about joining Make Use Of, and I hope to provide you with more useful stuff in my articles. Here is my blog – http://www.killertechtips.com. Keep an eye on my articles for more useful Windows tools and tricks .

I would like to introduce two new writers to the Make Use Of team whom we corrupted with the promise of riches and fame. Their names are Daniel Pataki and Karl L Gechlik. Both are excellent bloggers, both know their subjects inside and out and we are very excited to have them on the team. We are regular readers of their blogs so we know that they are capable of producing really great material.

You’ve probably already seen Karl’s first post but stay tuned for Daniel’s debut post which is coming up soon.

So, to get to know them a little better, we asked both Daniel and Karl to briefly introduce themselves:

Daniel Pataki from HackYourDay

Hello everyone!

I am honored to be able to tell you that I have just become a new guest blogger here at MakeUseOf.com. I have been reading the blog for a while, so I am probably more excited than you are, but I hope that I will provide you all with awesome posts that you can make good use of.

I am a 22 year old guy who probably tries to do too many things and even GTD, task managers, to-do lists can only sort of organize me. In my day job I work at home as COO for an internet based company and I also play guitar and sing. When the sun sets my secret identity comes into play and I start writing my blog, Hack Your Day and I have a few other web projects that are still hush – hush. I also enjoy bowling, squash, pool, table tennis and the gentle read here and there.

I especially love web 2.0 apps so be on the lookout for my ninja skills in taking apart these services and bringing you reviews and lists for comparison. I hope I can live up to the MakeUseOf quality, happy reading everyone!

Karl L. Gechlik from AskTheAdmin

Karl L. Gechlik here from http://www.askTheAdmin.com doing a weekly guest blogging spot for our new found friends at http://www.MakeUseOf.com. After being in the IT industry for well over a decade – I run my own consulting company, manage AskTheAdmin.com and work a full 9 to 5 job on Wall street as a System Administrator. I spend a lot of time answering peoples support questions that they send in to info@AskTheAdmin.com. As you can see; time management is one of my strong suits!

Stay tuned loyal readers for more of that free geeky goodness MakeUseOf readers have come to love. For those of you interested I have several projects in the works including a Novel, a series of AskTheAdmin on the street videos and of course plans for world domination.

Muhahahahahaa

Oh and to the geeky groupie chicks – I appreciate the offers but I am happily married with a 1 month old daughter!

Good news, we finally got our first guest writers. They are both unique, follow makeuseof, love the web, and surpass all my expectations. Check them out below and please give them a warm welcome.

Adam Hirsch

“I’m a down to earth working man who likes to cook, watch good tv/movies, listen to music, “chill”, go out when the occasion arises… I’m a sarcastic fun-loving, people-loving, animal-loving fool who also can give endless massages.” www.TheFattyTalks.com.

Go to Adam’s profile and it won’t take you long to figure that he is social to the core. We also happen to have almost identical blogrolls. So, I have no doubt he will be able to share some cool stuff with you guyz. He is planning to write about

” I Make Use Of ” – tools he uses

” The Other Lists ” – list of tools (Top 5, 10, etc.)

” I Would Use “- tools he would use if he had use for them

Mark O’Neill

“My name is Mark, I’m British and now living in Germany. I am a freelance writer, blogger, editor, English teacher and internet addict. I am also a regular contributor to Wikipedia , a book proofreader on Project Gutenberg and an audio book narrator on Librivox … “ www.BetterThanTherapy.net.

I am excited to have Mark, as not only is he a professional writer but also one of those who is at the core of what we know as user-generated content. We all love Wikipedia and yet only very small amount of users bother to expand, correct or question authenticity of specific facts or articles. He is also our long time reader and stumbler. Mark is planning to start of with some of his favorite apps.

Ok, That’s all from me, rest you’ll learn on the way.

Looking forward to your posts.
