Welcome July’s Recruits To Make Use Of’s Writing Team

Please welcome the latest – and for the moment the last – recruits to the Make Use Of writing squad. We’ve now decided to put our recruiting on hold for at least a few months while we put our existing staff through their paces to see if they’ve got what it takes to give you the high quality articles you’ve come to expect from Make Use Of.

There were a couple of last recruits from July and we will introduce them when their first articles come out.

I’m Jerry and by day I am the Training Director for Pacific Union GMAC Real Estate located in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am also a California real estate broker with over 22 years experience in all phases of real estate brokerage including sales, brokerage management and I was even the IT Director for a large regional real estate company.

Being dually addicted to real estate and technology, my passion is to combine the two in ways that help real estate agents do a better job of working for their clients and also to help them make a better living for themselves. Towards that end I started a real estate and technology blog in January.

I am excited about writing for Make Use Of and already have my first article published. As I explained to Mark, it’s probably good for a guy as old as me to be here as it may be helpful to other members of my generation, the Boomers, as I will bring my perspective to the table.

I’m Ken and I’m very happy to be a writer here at Make Use Of. I’m your average geek who loves discovering new websites and playing a lot of games. I’ve always been interested about the internet and have been striving to learn as much as possible ever since I caught wind of it.

I’m currently taking classes at a local community college in hopes of getting a job at something web related. Hopefully, my work here can inspire me for the future.

I think of myself as a very social person, and although I might not comment a lot about the social websites, I spend hours each day stumbling, digging, tagging, and reading.

Learning as much as I can is my goal here and all these social websites are the perfect places to learn more. I do not have a blog at the moment, mainly because I’m too lazy busy to set one up, but I’ll alert everyone when I do get started.

Hi, I’m Abraham, I’m a nineteen-year-old college student, born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I was introduced to free open source software (FOSS) a few years ago when my copy of Internet Explorer took a nose dive and a friend introduced me to Firefox. Naturally, I loved it and in time my computer was loaded with FOSS. Then in late 2007, I took the plunge into Linux and haven’t looked back since.

When not preaching the virtues of open source, I enjoy reading classic Sci-Fi, playing obscure video games, dabbling in programming and of course writing.

Hi. My name is Charnita and I’m a Kansas Army wife. I’m currently a homemaker with a sincere passion for blogging and social media. I enjoy surfing the internet and discovering new social media sites. I have been an internet junkie for about 3 years now.

With there being nothing here to do in Kansas, the majority of my spare time is spent online and I’ve managed to start up six websites. My latest site is my Social Web Tools blog, which I first started in an effort to pass the time whenever my husband is away. Right now I’m focusing on sharing my internet discoveries with my readers and learning more about internet marketing.

Besides the internet I love music, animals, video games (mostly old school stuff), and bugging my husband (something I do quite well). I’m pretty nervous about writing for such a large reader base here on Make Use Of, so I’m hoping to adjust quickly!

I’m Lee and as soon as I get the homemade ectoplasm off my face I’ll be a regular contributor to Make Use Of.

I’m a technician with fifteen years of experience in the trenches, battling computer evil from behind the retail service counter. Hopefully you’ll find my articles informative and not-too-stuffy. I may get a little opinionated from time to time, but that comes with the territory, am I right?

I always welcome questions and will do my best to answer yours (as long as it’s not “What is the average windspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?”). You can track me down on Unsightful, my personal tech blog for the not-quite-so-technical.

My name is Nick and I am a college student from New Jersey. I am an Information Technology major, freelance blogger, and web designer. In particular, I enjoy new technology, social networking, open source software, and internet media.

Hi, my name’s Simon and I’m a student from Belgium. I’ve always enjoyed computers and other IT-related stuff. As I grew up using an Apple, bought my first Windows PC and was later introduced to Linux, I’m a guy who can enjoy every platform.

My other passions are gaming (I own a PS3, Wii and an Xbox 360 – I’m still a Sony fanboy, though), watching movies, series and anime. Besides that, I like to read and just love music. Chances are that I will go and study game-development in England.

As we mentioned yesterday, May was quite a month for new writers coming on board with us to share their knowledge with the Make Use Of readers. Here are four of them introducing themselves.

Varun Kashyap

I am Varun from India. I am passionate about computers, the internet and the technologies that drive them. I love to discover new web applications and sites that increase my productivity and make my work easier, faster and fun.

I generally prefer open source software for the simple reason that I like their philosophy and they have so much more to offer than the proprietary ones.

I have a blog where you can find me explaining computers and technology in simple words, at the same time I try to include hacks, tips and tricks for people who wish to go that one step further.

Bill Mullins

My name is Bill from Toronto, Canada, and I’m glad to be aboard as part of the great team at Make Use Of. It’s a pleasure to be associated with all of these talented people.

I have been involved with the computing scene since before the days of the first PC; so yes I’ve been around practically since the days of the dinosaurs. Well, at least since the days of the Commodore VIC-20 and the Texas Instrument TI 99/4A (my first “real” computer) back in 1981.

Then through the halcyon days of 5.25″ single sided floppies, $800 10 Megabyte Hard Drives, 300 Baud modems, Bulletin Boards and the birth of what we now know as the Internet. It’s been quite a ride!

I started writing in the early 90’s primarily for business publications on business related issues, before switching over to Blogging 5 years ago. I now focus primarily on system and Internet related security issues.

Please welcome three new writers to the Make Use Of team – Anthony, Jackson and Mackenzie. While Anthony will be joining the rest of us and focus on web-based apps, Jackson and Mackenzie will start off MakeUseOf Mac and Linux sections, respectively. Obviously there’s more to computers and the web than just plain old Windows and so we’ve figured it would be best to expand a little and offer our readers a bit more choice in their reading. Actually, Jackson has already reviewed couple of Mac apps: a universal “my status” manager MoodBlast and a GTD program known as Things.

So without further ado, I’ll now hand the floor over to the new guys.

	My name is Anthony and I’m a high-school student in California. I love all kinds of sports and I also enjoy writing. In addition to writing for MakeUseOf, I write on my own blog – check it out at Radicitus.Blogspot.Com. I have a really ‘open’ writing style so don’t be surprised if I crack a lot of jokes. 	Hi, I’m Jackson and I’m a medical student with an addiction to surfing the Web, tech and gadgets. I’m a Switcher with a constant love-hate relationship with my Mac. Basically an all-rounder who loves to try everything at least once.
	I’m a sophomore studying Computer Science at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, originally from Pittsburgh, PA. I can’t remember ever not being a nerd, but I can remember trying to hide it behind really girly clothes. The books and computers always gave it away, so I give up. I’m a computer geek. I’m a bit of a programmer, but I haven’t found a language I really love yet. I have found an operating system I love though. I’ve spent about 20 hours a day using Linux every day since July 2006, and I’ve learned a lot in the process that I’m willing to share.

So without further ado, our writers will now introduce themselves :

My name is Tina, I’m 29 and I’m a tech addict. In “real life” I studied biology and am currently working as a scientist with merely a couple of months away from making my PhD in biochemistry. At the lab I’m responsible for all computer hardware and software, and with shame I admit I can’t always solve all the issues all the time. Hey, I’m a biologist, and I have yet to meet a computer that responds when I talk to it.

During my leisure time I run several online projects, one being my blog Recommended. Apart from the above I enjoy nature, architecture, photography, alternative/pop/rock concerts and couch surfing.

I got in touch with computers at a very young age, playing silly games on a workstation sitting next to a never forgotten Cray. To be honest, I hated the simple graphics of computers back then. But I was very impressed by all the equipment that filled the computing rooms at my dad’s workplace. As a kid I couldn’t help wondering why something so powerful produced such a dull visual output.

Fortunately, there has been a lot of progress and I’m looking forward to presenting you some of that. I will focus on “desktop modding” and “firefox”, but might also post about other things now and then.

Hello everyone!

I am honored to be able to tell you that I have just become a new guest blogger here at MakeUseOf.com. I have been reading the blog for a while, so I am probably more excited than you are, but I hope that I will provide you all with awesome posts that you can make good use of.

I am a 22 year old guy who probably tries to do too many things and even GTD, task managers, to-do lists can only sort of organize me. In my day job I work at home as COO for an internet based company and I also play guitar and sing. When the sun sets my secret identity comes into play and I start writing my blog, Hack Your Day and I have a few other web projects that are still hush – hush. I also enjoy bowling, squash, pool, table tennis and the gentle read here and there.

I especially love web 2.0 apps so be on the lookout for my ninja skills in taking apart these services and bringing you reviews and lists for comparison. I hope I can live up to the MakeUseOf quality, happy reading everyone!
