According to security researchers, Skype contains a flaw that makes it possible for a clever hacker to track and spy on Skype users, particularly those who use the mobile app. It’s not social engineering, nor is it an infiltration of the service itself, but rather a bit of ingenuity.

RIM was recently was struck by a network outage specific to their devices. Users in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and eventually the Americas had to go without their BlackBerry specific services, such as BlackBerry Messenger. For some users, the service blackout lasted three days. That would be a problem for any company, but it’s particularly bad news for a company that focuses heavily on enterprise users.

It’s natural for new parents to want to record the everyday activities of their baby. You never really know what’s normal for your child until you’ve established some kind of pattern, so it’s worth recording these little details so that you know exactly what normal is. These days, we can do far better than the old notebook. Smartphone users can get hold of any number of great applications to record their baby’s activity.

One thing that’s oddly missing from Android by default is a Notes application. Be honest: How many times have you sent yourself an email (or at least saved a quick Gmail draft) just because you had nowhere to jot down a quick note? Well, I hope to remedy that today, with either of these two free and simple note apps for Android.

With today’s technology, sending a friend or relative a picture of something is as simple as picking up your phone and pressing a few buttons. This can be especially useful when you’re on vacation or even if you’ve recently moved away. Pictures help you stay connected with those that aren’t with you, and I doubt I even need to get into how important text messaging has become.

When I first wrote about Elixir, that post made quite a splash. It turns out many people want a good, free, system information tool for Android. Well, for all of you out there, I have some great news today. Elixir 2 is much more powerful than the first version, and can probably replace several other apps you’re currently using, as well as add lots of new functionality you never knew you wanted.

GPS is one of the more frequently overlooked enhancements in consumer technology. It’s at least as useful and interesting as Wi-Fi, but often taken for granted. That’s a shame, because it can be incredibly useful, even in older smartphones. One potential covert use is tracking. A GPS connection from a mobile phone can be used to pinpoint its location, and by extension, the person or vehicle carrying it.

With so many third-party web browsers available for the iPhone and iPad – including Atomic Web, iChromy, Opera Mini, iSwifter, and Dual Browser – one has to wonder what any enterprising developer could possibly come up with that would be unique. Anyone who has used the iOS version of Safari can clearly see its limitations.
