Though possibly the most popular, the world of MMOs spans far beyond the realms of Everquest and World of Warcraft. There are hundreds to thousands of well-developed and even free online games for you and all of your friends to enjoy. You’ve just got to know where to look. So I’m here to share five MMO directories that I’ve had plenty of luck with in narrowing doing the choices.

Recently, it has come to my attention that a certain massively multiplayer real time strategy game (or MMORTS) has taken up a very large part of my downtime. This game is known as Lord of Ultima. It takes everything that is fun about text-based browser games and adds visuals and more depth to the game play. Anyone who has interest in strategy games should check it out.

We all know that there is no shortage of first person shooters, so we have to make our choice of which ones we want to play. We’ve been accustomed to the fact that most first person shooters have a price, and run on either Windows or a game console. With Urban Terror, we break away from the stereotype.

World of Warcraft gets a lot of bad press, yet clearly it’s doing something right to a have a few million players worldwide. In a bold move to invigorate the aging game, attract new players and just let everyone have a little fun, Blizzard recently announced that the game was now 100% free to play up to level 20.

Since the passing of the Dreamcast, Sega is a company that has had to adapt to survive. No longer able to compete in the hardware market, Sonic’s forefathers turned their heads solely to the software market. For the first time ever, we saw Sonic on a Nintendo console. Since then Sega has published and developed a multitude of games, and not all of them for the console market. Spiral Knights is aimed solely at PC users.
