The world of PC gaming hasn’t been so bad to us as of late. We’ve been given Portal 2, Skyrim, the official release of Minecraft, StarCraft 2, Crysis, and other games recently, and the promise of more continues to keep our wheels turning. Ever since World of Warcraft’s debut in 2004, pretty much every succeeding MMORPG has been compared to it. Some games seem destined for a life of solitude. Their design seems inherently singular, and we go through life with a general acceptance of this fact. These work as single player games, and we are comfortable playing them as such. However, what if a developer decides that they are not content to have just a single player experience? Gamers would be in uproar about how the game does not need multiplayer capabilities.

One little tool that doesn’t get enough shine in the MMO community is the Curse Client. The Curse client is Curse, bundled all up in one little program, that will allow instant access to installing mods and managing your games. I just started using it last week and I’ve been thoroughly impressed.

It’s free-to-play time for Everquest, a game that somehow had managed to retain a mandatory fee long after its sequel had abandoned it. With snapshots being released on an every-other-day basis, Minecraft 1.2 is right around the corner. Looking at the list of updates cited on the official Minecraft wiki, it seems like this update is quite sizable in comparison to 1.1. March’s eventual update should leave many happy and few disappointed, with mob AI updates, new creatures, varying new item drops, and more.

Minecraft is quite possibly the most viral and addictive indie game that we’ve ever come to see. Who knew that a concept as elementary as playing with toy blocks could become such a sensation? I play it, you or your friends probably play it, and more than 20 million people worldwide have legally purchased an account. Are we overrating this game though? Is Minecraft getting a little too much credit?
