Microsoft announced on Monday that it will directly integrate Google Talk into its Outlook.com webmail service - an unexpected maneuver on all accounts. The announcement came after Microsoft received user feedback specifically requesting the ability to chat with Google Talk contacts. Google Talk conversations done through Outlook.com will have to be text only for now.

Microsoft's Skype integration continues with the latest addition of Skype to the company's Outlook.com email service. This new Skype integration is just a preview for now, and will only be available in the UK at this time. In the next few weeks, users in the US and Germany will be able to enjoy the preview as well, with the rest of the world joining them "in the coming months".

I am always in search of a better email client. Don't get me wrong, Gmail is great and everything, but there's just something about a desktop email client that feels so much more powerful and functional. We keep trying to come up with new and innovative ways to make Gmail itself act as a desktop email client, but the truth is that there is nothing more powerful and full of features than true desktop email clients like Thunderbird and Outlook.

Did you sign up for an Outlook.com email address with Microsoft’s new Outlook.com email service, or do you still have a Hotmail account you prefer? If you're an Android user, you have several options for accessing that account on your Android phone or tablet. Microsoft provides an official Hotmail app that works for Outlook.com addresses, too. You can also use Android’s included Email app, if you like that instead. While Outlook.com and Hotmail email accounts may feel the most at home on Microsoft’s Windows Phone or Windows 8 ecosystems, they work great on Android, too.

Microsoft occupies the majority of the personal computing market, and much of the business market as well. It’s seen its downfalls though, too. There have been many products that it has launched that have only left me disappointed and frustrated. However, in the recent years, it seems Microsoft has gotten their act together with many of their products. Improvements will always be needed and made; however compared to what these past products were, they’ve improved tremendously.

I don’t think you will be changing over from Gmail to Outlook.com too soon. Definitely not brand loyalty, but certainly our email habits which makes that change just a future prospect. Gmail is great by every stretch of the imagination. But even then, you can take Outlook.com for a drive around town without making Gmail feel like a partner you left for a new lover.

Microsoft is finally looking to put Hotmail to rest with the introduction of their new email service called Outlook.com. Hotmail has been a staple of many email users for a long time, and it has changed little over the course of that time. Microsoft is looking to shake things up with this new service. It offers many changes and improvements over Hotmail. The UI is looks nothing like Hotmail. The design has that "Metro" look and feel that Microsoft has been using in most of their services. Microsoft calls the new interface, "modern", "clean", and "fresh". It certainly looks and functions substantially better than Hotmail.

Whether or not you are a fan of Microsoft, one good thing that can be said about MS Office products, at least, is how easy it is to integrate each of them with one another. Just think of the power that comes from having incoming emails automatically generating new tasks or new calendar appointments, or having a completed task automatically email your boss with the updated status report from the task description.
