I can fondly remember my first iPod. I was a late entrant to the whole Apple craze, and after years of owning crappy MP3 players that broke down constantly and had bad sound, I decided to take the plunge and buy an iPod. At the time, it was one of those big white chunky ones with the spinning wheel in the middle and to me, this thing was revolutionary. I ended up listening to more music than I had ever listened to in my entire life.

hronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team have finally released an untethered software jailbreak for all Apple devices running the A4 chip and below. Unfortunately the two current A5 devices, the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, are not currently compatible with this release at this time but the jailbreak will work on the iPhone 4 and 3Gs, iPod Touch 3G and 4G and the original iPad.

iOS users, if you haven’t got your free 50GB from Box.net yet, hurry up and do so. A couple of weeks ago, Box.net announced that any iOS user that logs into the Box app from an iOS device will get 50GB of storage, for life. The promotion will only last 50 days, and about 14 of those have already passed, so not much time left for getting this hefty amount of free storage.

Almost a year ago, Apple introduced Find My iPhone, an iOS app that locates your iPhone, through an Apple me.com account. It allows you to either send a display message to your phone, a new passcode that will lock it down, or permanently wipe all of the data. With the introduction of iOS 5, Apple has created a similar app for finding your friends and family members called Find My Friends.

One of Apple’s biggest cons is their restrictions. True, their devices are amazing, superbly crafted and work like a charm, but why can’t they play more than one specific video format? Apple, in general, tend not to approve alternative players that allow you to play multiple formats. True, I can jailbreak my iPad and just get VLC, but are there any alternatives that don’t require jailbreaking?

An issue I encountered when I first received my iPhone was the inability to stream my fairly well-organised music and video collection direct to my new device. I don’t use iTunes other than on my iPhone for the odd podcast, mainly because I’m primarily a Linux user, so I thought I would try Air Playit for Windows and Mac OS X.
