Apple has launched a whole new version of iTunes U, now available on both the iPhone and iPad. iTunes U is Apple’s take on education, and provides entire courses from different universities, colleges, and other facilities from around the world. We’re not talking about merely podcasts and videos. The courses on iTunes U include everything, and that means handouts, exams, answers and much more.

ESPN has launched their Winter X-Games application for iOS and will be launching it soon for Android. It’s an awesome app that is chock full of extreme sports goodness. What makes it really interesting for hardcore tech junkies is that ESPN chose to integrate group SMS messaging service GroupMe into the app. This is an incredibly smart move for both parties.

If you’re considering buying your first smartphone, you’ve got a fairly big decision to make. As well as choosing a carrier, plan and minimum contract period you then have to trawl through the barrage of handsets until you find something you like. Most buyers will probably end up choosing between the Android operating system and an iPhone, running iOS.

hronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team have finally released an untethered software jailbreak for all Apple devices running the A4 chip and below. Unfortunately the two current A5 devices, the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, are not currently compatible with this release at this time but the jailbreak will work on the iPhone 4 and 3Gs, iPod Touch 3G and 4G and the original iPad.

Following the recent OneNote launch for iPad, Microsoft is moving on with another major release – a native SkyDrive app. SkyDrive is Microsoft’s answer to cloud storage services such as iCloud and Dropbox, and they’ve now launched a designated SkyDrive app for both iPhone and Windows Phone. If you are an iPhone user on a grandfathered unlimited data plan with AT&T, be careful how much data you use. You won’t get charged extra for using too much, but you will see your speeds drop from 3G to 2G. This only applies to the top five percent of data users, but it is still pretty ridiculous. If you are in that group, you will receive a text message telling you that your data is being throttled.

Google+ for iPhone has received a nice little update. This update helps bring in some features that were previously only available on the computer version of the social network. The major feature included in this update is the ability to search. You can use the search to find people or specific posts. The new search box will appear right at the top of the screen, making it easy to get access to and use.
