Mount Zip Files, CD/DVD Images & Encrypt Folders

Pismo File Mount allows you to mount ZIP files and CD images as folders. The files can be mounted ‘read-only’ or as ‘read write’ files. You can thus access the content without having to burn CD’s or extract a zip folder. This can also be useful if you want to preserve your CD/DVD media but still be able to access their content. Pismo File mount offers a lot many features besides these. Let’s have a look:

Manage & Protect Passwords and Other Data with LockCrypt

Managing and protecting your personal data on your computer is an uphill task in the modern era. There is no dearth of hackers and spammers who work day and night to intrude into your computer and gain access to all your sensitive data and information. LockCrypt is a freeware application which aims to avoid such a situation by storing your confidential data in a secure and encrypted form.

It is an easy-to-use utility which works on Java and has a nice user interface. It can store data like your credit card and bank account details, passwords of your online accounts, serial keys of various software on your PC and various other data which you consider to be important and private.

Hide Text in Photos and Send Secret Messages [Mac only]

Have you ever wanted to send sensitive information to someone else over the internet? I’m sure you must’ve felt a little paranoid about your details getting stolen along the way. Ever wished there was a way to send messages across to a friend without others knowing? Or even not having the slightest hint that you’re sending a secret message? Do you need a way to disguise your message so that no one could tell anything from plainly looking at it?

Magicians often use this method to distract their audiences away from what is really happening — it’s called misdirection. This is mainly to get someone to focus their attention on something, while you’re performing something totally different.

How to Lock Or Hide A Folder, A File Or A Drive On The Computer

These days, hiding or locking a folder or file is probably something you will need if you use a computer that others use too.

A previous post has been written on this topic here but I have found a few other methods of doing such a thing, excluding download programs that can be easily accessible to others.

Here are five other methods:

Windows

Method 1 (the easy one)

    1. Click “Start”, “Run,” and then type cmd. When the command prompt opens type “CD C:\Test” (replace “Test” with the name of the folder you want to hide.)

    2. Now type “attrib file +s +h” and replace “file” with the name of the actual file name you would like to hide.

Keeping Under the Radar and Securing Your PC Files

Alarm People like nosing around. People like to go through other people’s stuff. Whether they are your family, friends, colleagues, or some anonymous guys in a basement in Japan, it’s something you want to avoid.

Whether it’s because you like your privacy or you think you have a reason to ‘erase your tracks’; in the end it’s all the same.

Luckily for you and I there are apps that can help you protect your privacy and your files, i.e. erase your tracks and put a nice big lock on all of your stuff.

Become a Secret Steganographer: Hide and Encrypt your Files

While cryptography stands for encrypting or coding messages in a way that no one who doesn’t hold the key can understand them, steganography means hiding messages, so that no one who doesn’t know it’s there will realize it’s there in the first place. Naturally, both techniques are best used in combination, and the tool I’m showing you today applies to both cryptography and steganography.

2 Ways to Hide “Important” Files and Folders in Windows

Everyone has certain files that s/he would rather keep private, especially guys. One of the ways to do that is to make such files hidden and bury them deep in the system files. The problem with such approach is that it’s not really conveninet if you need to access those files on a regular basis. So if you’re interested in something more conveninet, here are two simple ways to keep “important” files invisible and only a click a way.

4 File Shredders to Make Deleted Data Unrecoverable

From the “non-geek” perspective of Linda Martin-Peoples

File-Shredder.jpg Chances are, your PC contains entirely too much personal information about you … passwords, banking information, credit card numbers, address books, social security number, personal emails, and maybe even a few things that you wouldn’t want announced on the evening news.

And you may think that just by hitting your “delete” button, all is “lost”. Well, not exactly. “Delete” is actually just another word for “hidden”, when it comes to your PC.

Most of the information you delete can still be recovered by using special “retrieval” programs for that purpose, so it is still available to hackers, identity thieves, enemies and other spies!

Encrypt Sensitive Data with TrueCrypt

In any given month, I will perhaps try out around ten new software apps or web services. Out of those ten, nine get dumped pretty much right away for various reasons but the other one, to quote Goldmember, gets filed away as a “keeper”. I am pretty picky when it comes to software and web applications. Just one small minor irritant is enough to put me off the service for life. My only requirements are that a) it is useful to me in some way and b) it will work when I want it to. You’d be amazed (or not) at how much of the internet those simple requirements automatically excludes!
