Google+ iPhone and iPad apps are now available in more than 48 countries and territories. The Google+ iOS apps basically mirror the features of their online counterpart including Circles, Communities, and Hangouts. Making the apps available to more countries will of course significantly expand Google+'s user base as a social network.

Search, Gmail, Reader, Calendar, Drive, Play, YouTube…. this is just a partial list of the services we use every day. And for good reason, too. Google’s services are not popular just because they have the name “Google” next to them – they’re actually very good, and constantly provide their competitors with inspiration and ideas.

Google has just announced the beginning of the 6th annual U.S. Doodle 4 Google competition, and is inviting K-12 students around the country to create and submit their own “doodle”. Google is asking the young ‘doodlers’ – what would the perfect day look like? That’s where this year’s wining doodle hopes to find its inspiration.

The World Wide Web (now more commonly known simply as the Web) has been with us for over 20 years now, and in that relatively short space of time it has unequivocally changed the world. For better or worse. The architects of the Web could not have foreseen what a huge impact their creation was going to have, but over the course of two decades and counting the Web has evolved into a sprawling mass of websites and pages that number in the billions.

Each colorful dot on the map represents a resolution someone in the world has made, and you can read those resolutions in their original language and in a translation.

Along with the recent unveiling of Google+ Communities, Google also announced Snapseed for Android. This free and powerful photo editor tightly integrates with Google+, but is also very useful on its own. It features a unique interface for applying filters, in which you toggle aspects of filters by swiping up and down on the screen, and adjust their intensity by sliding horizontally. It sounds cumbersome, but in use it’s quite intuitive, and the results are certainly beautiful.

Google is bringing a cleaner look to search on desktops, with a new design for its main results page. If you’ve been using Google on your mobile or tablet, you’ll recognize the new design immediately: the familiar left-hand menu has now disappeared, and replaced with a new top menu, exactly like the one from Google's mobile interface. The new interface is currently available only on Google.com, and will roll out to other domains at a later time.

Google has just rolled out some awesome new features for Google+ Hangouts. The first, and most obvious of these features is the changes to the interface. Hangouts have received a new sidebar that contains useful information to improve the experience of getting together and video chatting with your friends. The sidebar shows invites, apps, and chat right where you can see it quickly. If you don't like this new feature, fear not, because you can hide it with a simple click.

If you think the Siri search feature on the iPhone is pretty cool and convenient, you might find it a little slow and clumsy after testing out the updated version of the iOS Google Search app, released on Tuesday. Google Search goes beyond the web browser search feature in iOS Safari by allowing users to make voice and text activated queries, as well as searches based on a snapped photo.

Google has just announced no less than three new devices, along with what they call a “new flavor” of Jellybean – Android 4.2. The new devices are Nexus 4, the newest of the Nexus smartphone line; a new Nexus 7, and the Nexus 10, with a resolution that beats even the new iPad. All these new devices come with Android 4.2, which is packed with new features despite not getting its own candy codename.

The team behind Google Maps have most certainly been busy over the month of October. They've added tons of pictures to Street View, and they've even gone to the Grand Canyon with Street View cameras strapped to their backs. They are looking to keep that momentum going with the addition of more detailed geography to Maps. This will help users get a more realistic feel for the maps on the service. It will allow them to better find out about the diverse features all over the Earth.

Google has partnered with 17 museums and cultural foundations to establish what is called an online Cultural Institute that showcases over 40 online historical exhibitions displayed in a multimedia format. The historical timelines draw on a mixture of archived letters, manuscripts, first-hand video testimonials, and other primary documents.
