If you could go back in time ten years and give yourself a sneak peek at the smartphone you own now, what would you think? Would you be amazed by the brilliant display? Would the fast hardware capture your attention? Or would you simply scream “but time travel is impossible!?!” What about if you could jump ten years forward from today’s date?

Steve Jobs has stepped down as CEO of Apple, and while he will continue as Apple’s chairman, his relinquishment of the title is a clear indication that he sees his time as Apple’s leader coming to an end. Why has he decided to step down now, and what is the legacy he leaves behind? Until he cashes in by writing an autobiography, we won’t know for certain, but that doesn’t mean we can’t give it some thought.

Once the love of all geeks, laptops are now defending their turf against smaller, lighter tablets that provide excellent battery life. While it’s not clear if tablets are the cause, laptops have seen their sales stall out recently. Yet in spite of their position as the new gadget wonder-child, some tablets try to be more like their older brethren by offering a physical keyboard.

Be it as simple as trying to crack an important encrypted file you’ve forgotten the password to, or as devious as keeping tabs on a person’s moves online, there are reasons why a hacker-for-hire might appeal. But can you actually lay out your own cash for this service, or will you just be scammed?

Performance is important when browsing the web on a computer, but your average PC has plenty of power to work with. Smartphones, however, are a different story.
