I love Firefox and I love extensions!
There I said it. I am an extension junkie!
I did a clean install today on a new laptop and I decided to document some of my favorite Firefox extensions. But before we get into the list …
I wanted to warn you that each additional extension you install uses more memory and can slow down your Firefox or computer. So try out as many as you want, keep what you need and disable/uninstall the ones you don’t to keep your fox running nice and quick.
I got my first (and only) Mac about a year ago and discovered I hated one of the major features that makes OS X different from Windows. I resented having to move my mouse so high, just to get at the file or edit menu way up there in the menu bar. I’ve since come to love the menu bar and I’ve recently begun experimenting with some small apps that sit there unobtrusively waiting for me to glance at them or access them — often with a hotkey.
I don’t know why we didn’t think of this sooner but we have just started a Make Use Of account on Del.icio.us and we are looking for YOUR contributions!
The purpose of the account is to encourage reader participation in submitting website links to Make Use Of. One part of Make Use Of is the Make Use Of directory - which is a huge enterprise in its own right. But to keep it going, it needs a continual stream of new sites added to it.
I am a huge user of del.icio.us (to the point where I keep virtually no links in my browser bookmarks) and as I bookmark more and more links, the problem arises over how best to organise them all and even more importantly, how to find a specific link again in the future. The whole concept of “tagging” is still rather new to me and so I am concerned that once I put a link on my del.icio.us page, it will disappear forever down the deep black hole of the internet. I am currently organising my tags into bundles and so I can see for myself first-hand what a mammoth task it is to keep links and tags in such an order that they can be easily found again.
Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking website belonging to Yahoo that let’s you store, share and organize yours and discover others favorite links. While this may not sound very enticing as many people can simply store their favourites on their computers, there are two main things del.icio.us gives that your locally stored bookmarks don’t. Firstly, by storing your favourites on del.icio.us server you can access them anytime from anywhere as long as you are connected to the internet. Secondly, and most importantly it provides you an access to favourites of other del.icio.us users, and there are millions of them.
