In my operating systems class, we have 8 projects for the semester, all of which must be completed in groups of 2. These labs are time-consuming to say the least, and the last thing any of us students want to do is rot together for 30 hours sitting in the university computer labs for each project. Thus, we decided to look for time-saving tools and give real-time text editors a try. Turns out, they’ve been extremely helpful.

If you’re reading this blog you’re likely the unofficial tech support for at least some of your friends. The problem is getting your technically challenged friend to launch any service. If there’s a client to download or a service to sign up for, getting the screen share up and running alone can take an hour of giving instructions over the phone. Throughout the Internet, you and your friends are probably collecting photos, links and videos of things you’ve done or hope to enjoy. Some of you may blog about your experiences too, thus adding to the vast amount of information out there about the things you love to do. But when the event was attended by a group of friends, the story is often best told together, instead of in separate spaces.

There’s been quite a few problems that have risen about Dropbox in recent months that is making some people feel uncomfortable about using it and are seeking refuge by means of an alternative. There are plenty of other online storage services, such as Box.net, but it seems that there is no alternative that can compete with the benefits that Dropbox provides, namely file synchronization.

Are you someone who like to sit alone and watch all these online videos. Having some friends along to share your thoughts and reactions with is so much more fun. There are many ways to watch YouTube videos collaboratively. Here are the easiest and simplest ways I found out there.

Meanwhile, some entrepreneurial types have exactly the opposite problem – they’re keen to make a great idea blossom, but they’re not big on the ideas.

You want to help, but everything would be so much easier if you could see what’s on the screen, and if possible take control of their computer from your computer. One great thing about an application as useful as Dropbox is that other people find interesting ways to utilize it and make it even more useful for others. For instance, you can use Dropbox to share files, manage your photos, sync files on various platforms, and cut time off your school work. You can even recover your lost files with it. Now I’m going to show you how to chat with it as well.

If you’ve been to a family gathering or birthday party, you’ll notice how everybody seems to bring their own camera. You will also know how difficult it is to collect everybody’s shots into one collection. Browsing all of their Facebook accounts and downloading all the images one by one is not much easier either. A better solution is to set up a “dumping place” where everybody can put their images.
