ChromeMarks Lite for Android can sync your Google Chrome bookmarks with your Android device. The tool supports syncing bookmarks in both ways between Google Chrome on your desktop and the Android app. Limitations of the free version include that you cannot edit your bookmarks or sync them with the browsers installed on your Android device.

Set Up Bookmark Syncing In Chrome

For ChromeMarks Lite to work, you first need to enable syncing of your Google Chrome bookmarks between computers. In the browser, click the wrench icon in the top right and open > Options. It will open in a new tab. Go to > Personal Stuff and click the > Sign in to Chrome or > Set up sync… button, depending on what is displayed for you.

In the advanced sync preferences pop-up window, select the items you want to sync, such as your > Bookmarks. When you’re done click OK.

Your bookmarks will now be synced with your Google account. To access your Google Chrome bookmarks on a different installation of the browser, simply perform these same steps and all your synced data will be imported from your Google account and subsequently synced with it.

Set Up ChromeMarks Lite On Your Android Device

To access the bookmarks that are synced from your Google Chrome desktop browser to your Google account, download and install ChromeMarks Lite.

When you first open the app, you will see that there are no bookmarks in the database yet. Click the > sync button to initiate the synchronization.

Note that you first have to provide permission to the app. Once this is done, it will initialize and start syncing your bookmarks from your Google account.

This procedure will only take a few seconds and then all your bookmarks will be available in the ChromeMarks Lite app, as shown below. Note that ChromeMarks Lite does not support auto-syncing. Hence, to get the latest bookmarks from your Google account, you occasionally need to click the > Sync button in the top right.

When you click a bookmark, it will either open directly in your default browser or ask you which browser you want it to open with.

By the way, clicking on a bookmark for more than a second will open a menu with options to open it in a new window, share the link or copy the URL.

Does ChromeMarks Sync With My Android Browser Bookmarks?

ChromeMarks Lite does not offer this feature. To integrate ChromeMarks with your Android browser, you have to upgrade to the full version of the app. Unfortunately, Honeycomb and some Samsung users are partly left out, as the tool does not integrate or sync with the stock browser on Android Honeycomb and some Samsung phones. However, before you risk upgrading, you can verify whether or not your device will support the upgrade options using ChromeMarks Lite.

Click the menu icon in the top right, then select > Settings and go to > Upgrade Options.

A green checkmark indicates that your device supports the respective feature, while items marked with a red cross will not be available. Since I am on a Samsung Honeycomb tablet, ChromeMarks presently is not able to sync with my browser bookmarks.

Conclusion

It is a pity that you have to use a third-party app on your Google Android device to access bookmarks synced to your Google account. However, at least this app comfortably enables you to access bookmarks synced with your Google account and despite the limitations of the free version, it is very useful. I reckon that the paid version is worth upgrading to if your Android device supports syncing with your installed browser. Otherwise it’s only worth it if you want to enable manual editing of bookmarks and auto-syncing.

How do you sync bookmarks between your desktop and mobile devices?

Like it or hate it, Adobe rules the roost when it comes to the Portable Document Format (PDF). Even as Adobe Reader puffed up with importance and size, free alternatives came into the scene. They brought in new features and some you could only find in the commercial Adobe Acrobat, the paid big brother of the still free Adobe Reader.

Great! But for me as a lay reader, the one thing that strikes a discordant note when I am using the free Adobe Reader X is the absence of a bookmarking feature. Just how the heck am I supposed to start from where I left off reading a 1000 page ebook?

Why Adobe would nix out such a basic feature is beyond me, but that forced me to look for solutions as a workaround.

The Easy Way to Remember a Page in Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader does not let you create and place new bookmarks, but there’s one little setting you can apply that will help the software remember the last page that was opened by the PDF reader. It is ‘technically’ not a bookmark, but it’s a handy workaround that takes just a checkmark. Follow the steps below to enable the native feature.

1. In Adobe Reader, go to Edit – Preferences (or CTRL + K).

2. Click on Documents under the listed categories on the left.

3. As shown in the screenshot, enable the feature that says – Restore last view settings when reopening document. Click OK and exit.

Now, open any number of PDF documents; Adobe Reader remembers the page you left it at. This may not be a bookmarking solution, may not give you the option to mark out multiple points in a book, but is a simple elegant answer to our basic requirement when we open up an ebook in a PDF reader.

JavaScript Has the Answer

Call this a plug-in or an Adobe back, but it is the only solution I could find to deliberately introduce a bookmarking feature in Adobe Reader. The small 5KB JavaScript file is packaged in a downloadable ZIP file at PDF Hacks.

1. Download and unzip the small file. Copy it into your Acrobat Reader JavaScript’s directory. In my Win XP machine it is located at – C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\Javascripts.

2. Open any PDF file with Adobe Acrobat Reader and open the View menu. Four new items are clearly visible under the menu – Bookmark this page, Go to bookmark, Remove bookmark and Clear bookmarks. The numbers (5,6) next to the top two options refers to the keyboard shortcut keys.

3. The functions are pretty much self-explanatory. From the page you want to bookmark, click on Bookmark this page. The following box opens up and you can assign a name to the bookmark.

4. Clicking on Go to bookmark opens up a floating box and a click on each takes you to each successive bookmark you have set. You can bookmark as many numbers of pages as you want.

5. Remove bookmark allows you to remove a single bookmark and Clear bookmarks wipes out all the bookmarks in one go.

Note: For some PDF files, the hack works smoothly. In others, you might get an internal error notification. Right click on a page in the PDF file and click on Page Display Preferences. Under JavaScript, make sure the boxes on the right are checked as in the following screen.

Inspite of the larger memory footprint of Adobe Reader in comparison to other (free) alternatives, there are some benefits like better rendering of PDF documents. The new Sandbox feature has also improved security. But the missing feature of user-bookmarking is an irritant when it comes to readers like you and me. These two simple, no hassle solutions allow us to use Adobe Reader and enjoy a few of its merits.

Do you know of any other way to bookmark ebooks in Adobe Reader? Did these two tips solve your PDF bookmarking issues? Let us know.

We live in paranoid times. Prying eyes are everywhere and these days with high digital I.Qs, they can be anyone. Even your kids. Our diligently harvested bookmarks are resources some of us protect with our ‘lives’. From online backup solutions like XMarks to using full-fledged cloning solutions, we go the whole hog. That’s always recommended, but how do you stop someone from clicking on the Bookmarks menu items and accessing the folder?

We all have some sensitive bookmarks that should be kept away from snooping eyes. Protecting the passwords you use to access sites can be protected with a master password on Firefox. What I was looking for was a way to securely encrypt and password protect my bookmarks. I found two:

Secure Firefox with Link Password

Link Password encrypts a URL and stores it as a bookmark in your bookmarks folder. It functions without a hassle and is a single click operation if you discount the password you have to enter twice for verification. When you are on a page that you want to bookmark (and password encrypt), click on Tools – Link Password, Make new Encrypt Link. Enter the password you want to use. You can do the same to any of your existing links by right clicking on the bookmark in your bookmarks folder.

The webpage is secured and can only be accessed if you enter the correct password.

Link Password also works on entire folders of bookmarks. You can encrypt (and decrypt) all links in one go by right-clicking on the folder and setting the password.

What happens if someone disables or uninstalls the add-on? They still won’t be able to open the link as Link Password encrypts the link with secure AES algorithm and you will need to download and install the add-on again to decrypt it back. Link Password also lets you rename the links. But do remember to decrypt the bookmarks if you are planning to uninstall the add-on.

Secure Chrome with Secure Profile

I haven’t found a solution like Link Password that will protect only the bookmarks in Chrome. But the Chrome extension called Secure Profile enables you to protect the entire Chrome profile you are using. The simple Chrome extension stops unauthorized use of your browser, thus protecting your bookmarks from unneeded access. After installation, you have to set the password for the profile you are using (or the default one).

Every time you start this specific Chrome profile you will be prompted to enter the same password. Entering an incorrect password will close the Chrome window closing, thus protecting your profile. This Chrome extension is very handy because you can set up multiple profiles of the Chrome browser on your machine and protect each one individually with this extension.

All the more, Secure Profile also protects the browser in incognito mode. Just open the extensions tab and check the box that says - “Allow in incognito”.

So far, the only problem I see is that the passwords you enter appear as plain text and not as dots or asterisks.

These two browser add-ons are easily implementable and provide a basic security shield. Of course, if you are ultra-cautious, you can use third-part bookmarking tools like XMarks and Delicious. Industry grade security solutions like TrueCrypt can also be used to make your bookmarks hack proof. Here are a few bulletproof security tips you can consider:

In September, Google decided to axe a number of services that were under-performing as part of an ongoing effort to focus on core projects. Today, the body count has increased.

Perhaps the most significant loss is Knol, which was Google’s attempt to create a viable Wikipedia alternative. Although it managed to acquire over 100,000 articles, it never managed to compete, and will now be seeing itself out. Users can salvage information, however, by moving it to a new WordPress-based platform called Annotum. The Knol site will go inactive on May 1st 2012, and information on Knol will still be available for download or export to Annotum until October 1st, 2012.

Google Wave, which saw a halt to development in April of 2010, is finally going the way of the dinosaurs. As of January 2012 the site will become read-only, and everything will be deleted as of April 2012.

Also on the chopping block are Google Bookmarks Lists, Google Friend Connect, Google Gears, and Google Search Timeline, all of which will be discontinued within the next few months. For details on the end dates, check out the full blog announcement. The Renewable Energy Cleaner than Coal project is to be given the halt, as well, but it likely won’t be missed since there was never a user-facing component to it.

Coincidentally, Google Health – a service whose demise was announced earlier this year – recently sent an email reminder notifying users that it will be discontinued as of January 1st 2012, with data stored there remaining available for download until January 1st, 2013.

The long established, popular social bookmarking service, Delicious.com, is undergoing a major facelift after being acquired by the founders of YouTube, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. Although there’s not many details about the exact changes to the site, existing Delicious.com members must agree to let Yahoo transfer their bookmarks to the new Internet company AVOS, by September 23 2011. Click here to make the transfer.

The company says that “any Delicious users who haven’t opted in by September 23 will lose all their bookmarks and account information“. When the site is relaunched, existing members will maintain uninterrupted use of Delicious, keep their Delicious username, account information and bookmarks. All bookmarks marked private will remain that way in the transfer process.

Although many bookmarking sites have emerged since the founding of Delicious back in 2003 (and acquired by Yahoo in 2005), the clean minimalist design, and ease-of-use makes the site practical for quickly adding and storing selected bookmarks in the cloud. Bookmarks can be added to Delicious using a browser toolbar bookmarklet or by manually adding them to your account.

Private and public bookmarks on Delicious can be searched, organized by tags, tag bundles, and keyword search. Members of the site can also subscribe to the bookmark lists of other members. Delicious.com was one of the first sites to popularize the use of tagging for the purpose of managing and searching data. Many long-time users of the service are no doubt looking forward to the forthcoming upgrades, so be sure to transfer your bookmarks now.

<firstimage="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/00_chrome_icon.jpg">There are millions of pages on the web, but how many of their URLs can you remember? Not many, I guess. You would be a very extraordinary person if you could memorize a few hundreds URLs. To help users remember all of those great websites that they stumbled onto, browser developers came up with various bookmarking features.

Thanks to extensions, users can add new abilities and improve almost all the existing features of a browser – including bookmarking. If you are a Chrome user and you want to expand the ability of your browser’s bookmarking feature, you could try Quickmarks – an extension that will help you to quickly open and manage bookmarks in Chrome using simple keywords.

It Takes Two Steps

You could say that Quickmarks is a bookmark launcher, comparable to application launchers on your personal computer. You can get it by going to the Quickmarks page in the Chrome Web Store and clicking the “Install” button.

The extension will then be added to your browser and a notification window will pop up.

The basic usage of this extension is fairly simple. Just type “b” (sans quote) in the Chrome address bar (or the “omnibox” as some call it), click “Tab“, and type in the name of the bookmark you want to open. A list of possible bookmarks will appear as you type the name. You can navigate the list by using the up and down arrows on your keyboard. To choose an entry, hit “Enter“. Everything is done without the need to touch the mouse.

In the spirit of a mouse-free environment, some may ask how to get to the omnibox without using the mouse. You can use the tab button to move between the fields on the open page. By hitting tab repeatedly, you will finally arrive at the omnibox. But the simplest way is to use the “History – Home” menu (Ctrl + Shift + H on Windows or Command + Shift + H for Mac). This menu will put the focus on the omnibox so you can quickly type in the Quickmarks’ shortcut.

More Tricks Under The Sleeves

Even though the basic usage of Quickmarks is just “b – tab – name“, there are a few more tricks you could apply to make the whole process even swifter. The first one is adding shorter shortcuts to your bookmarks.

To do that, open “Bookmarks – Bookmark Manager” (or Control + Shift + B / Command + Option + B).

The Bookmark Manager will open in a new tab, and you can look or search for the page that you want. To assign new keyword(s) to your bookmarks, select one, and right click on it. After that, choose “Edit” from the pop-up window.

The bookmark name and URL will be editable. All you have to do to assign a keyword(s) to the bookmark is to add your preferred characters between square brackets. For example, I wanted to add “dk” as the keyword to summon the “Discovery Kids” page, so I added “[dk]” after the site name.

Using keywords like this, you can summon any bookmark page quicker by using “b – tab – keywords“. Still using the example above, if I wanted to open Discovery Kids, I only have to type “b – tab – dk” and hit “Enter“.

There’s another trick you could do with Quickmarks: to quickly summon bookmarklets. In Safari, users can open a bookmark/bookmarklet by using the shortcut keys Control + Number / Command + Number, where “Number” is the order of the bookmark location in the bookmark bar.

We can use Quickmarks to achieve the same thing. Just add a number as the keyword for your bookmarklet, and you can quickly summon it using the number.

For example, I added “[1]” to Quix. So every time I want to open Quix, I just use “b – tab – 1“. You can use the trick to open other useful bookmarklets like Joliprint, Instapaper, or Evernote.

<firstimage="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/firefox-location-bar.jpg">Firefox’s “Awesome Bar” is known to save you time on typing the URL: just start typing any part of the domain, URL path or page title and Firefox will “guess” where you are heading. Someone may find the feature “too smart” but it’s been working wonders for me for ages. I barely open my bookmarks now to find my saved pages or search Google to remember the page I once visited and forgot to save the URL.

FireFox’s Awesome Bar “Frecency” (“frequency” + “recency”) algorithm has worked very well for quickly finding what I need and where I want to go:

Frecency is a score given to each unique URI in Places, encompassing bookmarks, history and tags. This score is determined by the amount of revisitation, the type of those visits, how recent they were, and whether the URI was bookmarked or tagged.

But even using it for ages, I wasn’t aware of the following Firefox Awesome Bar tips which make it even more awesome!

1. Three Awesome Awesome Bar Search Tips

Typing what you remember about the required URL is almost always enough to instantly find what you need but did you know that you can filter Awesome Bar suggestions by type?

Only Search Within Your Bookmarks

Type a single * and then your search term. Only bookmarked pages will be searched and, what’s more, the associated tags will be displayed and the tag names will also match your search (when possible):

Quick tip! Do you want to see the list of your most frequent and recent bookmarks? Just type a single * in the awesome bar and see the list!

Only Search Within Your History

Use ^ to filter search to your browser history (and exclude pages that have been given a star).

Quick tip! Use ^ ( without additional search terms) to find pages that you have visited frequently and recently to consider bookmarking and tagging them:

Only Search Within Your Tagged Pages

Use + that restricts the search to tagged pages (and search within tags as well).

2. Quickly Find Any Open Tab

If you are a fan of FireFox 4 “Switch to Tab” functionality that lets you quickly jump to a currently open tab (instead of loading the same page again in a new tab), you will love this tip.

To see the list of all currently open tabs in your browser, just type % in your Awesome bar and you’ll see the list and, what’s more, will get an option to jump to any of those:

Quick Tip! If you have too many tabs open, you can quickly find the one you have in mind: just start typing a related word after the %:

In case you are looking forward to more FireFox URL bar tips, here’s an old post we did on how to enhance productivity with FireFox’s Address bar that lists some handy keyboard shortcuts to activate and browse the Awesome Bar as well as some other tips and addons.

Are you aware of any other awesome Awesome Bar search tips and shortcuts? Please share your thoughts in the comments!

<firstimage="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/MoveToCloud01.png">With the establishment of the Internet as a giant storage place, metaphorically referred to as The Cloud, local backups, cross-device syncing, and local data storage is becoming more and more redundant. In fact, the average user already stores a bulk of personal data online. Soon, even the data hoarders may find sufficient space in the digital cloud to say goodbye to terabyte-sized hard drives and complicated backup and sync procedures.

Are you ready to step into The Cloud? In this article I will show you how you can become largely independent of local data storage and store your data in the cloud. I will provide an overview of how the Internet can help you sync information across different software, platforms and devices to have your data accessible anytime, anywhere by you or by anyone you choose.

Cloud Messaging: Email

Whether you maintain a webmail account like Yahoo, Hotmail, or GMail or send and receive email via a desktop client, your messages inevitably pass through The Cloud and are stored on Internet servers, at least temporarily. The advantage of a webmail account that permanently stores your mails online, is that you cannot lose important messages and data. Some people even scan important documents and mail them to their own webmail account in order to have permanent access to them. It’s a thought worth tossing around.

Consider Google Mail for a permanent webmail account. Apart from over 7GB of free storage, it offers incredible features that will let you experience email in a whole new light.

Online File Storage: Dropbox

At first sight, Dropbox is a harmless little folder that sits on your desktop and holds your files. What hides behind it however, is a nifty little sync tool that works in the background and never hassles you. Not only are files in your Dropbox automatically encrypted and synced to your online Dropbox account, you also have access to 30 days of undo history, you can share Dropbox subfolders with your friends, access your files online, or sync them to as many devices as you like. 2GB of this cloud storage madness is totally free.

Brain Online: Evernote

Evernote is something like your online pinboard or fridge for useful bits and pieces of information, some even call it their external brain.
Passwords Anywhere: LastPass

What is the greatest annoyance when you quickly want to check your email on a friend’s computer or in an Internet café? After years of letting your browser store your password, you actually forget it! The same fate awaits those who reinstall their computer or set up a new device.

LastPass is a long term solution because it encrypts and stores your passwords online. It also offers extensions for all major browsers and mobile devices, allowing you to sync passwords across multiple browsers and operating systems and all your gadgets. In addition, LastPass provides a secure password generator, which creates nearly uncrackable passwords.

Bookmarks Sync: Xmarks

When we talk about The Cloud, we’re automatically talking about browsers and bookmarks. Browsers are our digital window into The Net and being the most important tool for accessing the Internet, many people are almost emotionally attached to their browser. While many browsers now offer syncing of personal data, what they all lack is cross-browser-syncing of bookmarks. What good are your bookmarks if you cannot access them anywhere?

Note that Xmarks will no longer sync passwords. The company has acquired LastPass and is thus deprecating the password sync feature in Xmarks.

Cloud Entertainment: Amazon Cloud Drive & Player

Right now, Amazon Cloud Drive is nothing but yet another online storage space. However, with the introduction of its Cloud Player, it provides a glimpse into the future of digital entertainment. Soon, we will store our media files locally, they will all be located in the cloud and accessible through apps on our digital devices. You can text the future now by using the 5GB free space on Amazon Cloud Drive for your music (US only).

<firstimage="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/coolpreviewslogo2.png">Surfing the web comes down to performing search engine queries and then clicking on links to check if the site has the answers that you want. As far back as 2007, MUO has been covering the model of search “preview” panes, such as the short list of Firefox search preview plugins that Kaly covered. This field really took off when Google launched “Instant Preview” which Nancy covered. Ann also reviewed a few creative ways to open up a “preview panel” in Firefox to website preview links without having to click on them.

I’ve used the Google preview option before, but never really found the time to really dig into how much time the right website preview solution could save. Basically, I was too busy to discover how much time I could save – as ironic as that sounds. That is, until I discovered CoolPreview.

Using The CoolPreviews Firefox Plugin

Once you install the CoolPreviews plugin, the link preview feature is ready to go. Also, unlike Google Instant Preview, the CoolPreviews plugin will give you a link preview window everywhere you go on the Internet, regardless of what website you’re on. All you have to do is hover your mouse over any link at all, and you’ll see the CoolPreviews icon show up.

Hover your mouse over that icon, and the preview “window” pops up and shows you the webpage in a scrollable format. It’s actually like having an embedded browser window inside the existing browser window. You can explore the page, click on links and check out the site without ever leaving the current page that you’re on. If you like what you see, just click the button at the top of the window to open the site in a new tab. Don’t like it? Just close the window.

If you don’t want to bother with opening and closing the preview window every time you want to see a link, just click on the pin icon at the upper right corner of the screen and the preview window will stay available.

Just slide the preview window down to the corner of your browser window, and it’ll show you a quick preview of every link you hover your mouse over – a fast and easy way to browse the web from one browser window. Gone are the days of opening tab after tab just to check links.

As you browse through the Internet in one tab, you just glide your mouse over each link, glance at the site in the website preview pane, move on the the next link, and keep on rolling until you see the page that has the information you want. Then you can click to open it in a new tab (or just navigate the page from the preview window itself!)

It’s also really easy to customize the behavior and appearance of the preview window by clicking on the settings button. Change when the preview window appears, where it shows up on the browser window, and even the theme of the preview window.

Additional Features

Another really useful feature of CoolPreviews is the Google Images feature. When you search Google Images and hover your mouse over an image, a preview of the picture in its actual size will show up in the CoolPreviews window. If you want to see all of the images from the Google Image results in a clean and convenient slideshow gallery, just click on the Play button.

A large slideshow window will open with the selected image in the center pane, and a navigation slider at the bottom. Just click the arrow to browse through all of the Google Image results.

Another really cool feature of CoolPreviews is the Temporary Bookmark Stack. If you find a cool site that you want to bookmark for future reading, just tap the “Stack” button, and the add-on will toss the URL into a virtual stack of webpages.

You’ll see a small tab attached to the right side of the browser window which you can tap on to explore your stack of bookmarks whenever you like.

What’s the point of “temporary” bookmarks? Well, have you ever been researching a particular subject, and you wanted to just fly through search results and save the URL’s for deeper reading later? Basicaly, CoolPreviews lets you do three steps in one. You do a Google Search, hover over the links to see a page preview, and when you see something useful, you can bookmark it to read later. You can do all three steps with a single click.

CoolPreviews converted me to the world of “link previews” – and I’ve already started cutting down a lot of time off my research efforts. I’m confident it’ll do the same for you. Give it a try and let us know how you liked it in the comments section below!

<firstimage="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/00-Firefox-Sync-Logo.jpg">I admit it – I’m not a loyal Firefox user. I stopped using it long ago since it constantly hogged and slowed down my system. But that’s about to change. After a year since the last major version was released, Mozilla has launched Firefox 4 with the promise of a lighter and speedier browsing experience.

In order to win back the hearts of its users, the latest version of the Fox offers many improvements and new features. One of the new features is “Firefox Sync” which will help users to synchronize their bookmarks across computers. While the feature might not be useful for users with one computer, those who work with multiple computers will really appreciate this ability.

Setting Up The Sync Environment

To utilize the sync feature, make sure that all of your computers have Firefox 4 installed. If your Firefox is still the older version, you need to download the latest version first.

After Firefox 4 is installed, open it up and go to the “Set Up Sync” menu. In the Mac version, this menu is located under “Tools“; while in the Windows version, it’s under the “Firefox” menu.

You can choose one of the computers to start setting up your Firefox Sync account and add the other computers to the account later. Click the “Create a New Account” button in the “Firefox Sync Setup” window.

Continue by filling in your email address and chosen password in the Account Details.

You will get the “Sync Key”. You will use the key to set up and add another computer to the sync account. Due to its importance, it’s advisable to save the key and keep it safe.

The key will be saved as an HTML file. If you have a Dropbox account and have the application installed on the other computers that you use, it’s a good idea to save the Firefox Sync Key file in the Dropbox folder so you can access it easily.

Now the set up process is complete. Click the “Done” button to wrap up.

Adding Other Firefoxes To The System

The next step is to add other Firefoxes in other computers to your account.

Go to the “Set Up Sync” menu on the other Firefox and start the setup process again.

But now click the “Connect” button instead of “Create A New Account“.

You will see “Add a Device” window and you will have three sets of codes. Leave this window open for a while and go back to the first computer where you set up the Firefox Sync account.

In the first computer, open “Preferences” and choose the “Sync” tab. Click the “Add a Device” link and write down the three codes that you got in the previous step.

It’s possible that you may not have the first computer with you when you add another computer to your sync account. In this case, click the “I don’t have the device with me” link under the three sets of codes. This other option requires you to sign in with your Sync account. Type in your email address and password. Open the saved Firefox Sync Key HTML file and type in the Sync Key.

And that’s it. You’ve just added another computer to your sync account. Repeat the process for other computers that you use and you are ready to sync your bookmarks across computers.

To start syncing, open the Firefox menu and choose “Sync Now” under Windows or “Tools – Sync Now” under Mac.

If you are an Android phone user, you can also use the sync feature by installing Firefox on your phone. There’s no Firefox version available for iPhone, but iPhone users can use an app called Firefox Home that will sync and store your Firefox bookmarks.

What do you think of multi-computer bookmark sync systems? Do you use them? Do you prefer Firefox’s built-in system or do you have a better alternative that you use? Share your opinions and knowledge using the comments below.
