Downloading times have been cut short and shorter, but we are a typically impatient lot. There’s been a historical trade-off between streaming your films and series, and mustering up the patience for a decent download. With the ability to stream video from torrents in full quality, the gap between these two is ever closing, bringing the best of both worlds.

Imagine this – you get all of your entertainment free of charge, courtesy of people who record it for you in their spare time and put it on the Internet. Then these people, who you’re not paying, change the format they are offering this free entertainment in. Would you, realizing that you’re getting free entertainment because of volunteers, just accept it? Or would you complain about it in the comments section of torrent sites?

As we recently reported, The Pirate Bay has switched from using .torrent file downloads to magnet links with no opt-out policy. The tracker has offered magnet downloads for a good while now, but this is the first time we’ve seen such a large public tracker use embedded links exclusively.

Notorious BitTorrent tracker The Pirate Bay has today dropped .torrent files completely from their site in favour of magnet links instead. Recent events have seen well-known torrent directories like BTJunkie closing their doors or being threatened with closure, leaving many people wondering about the legalities of torrents and which directories are still open to find them in anyway. The good news is that the process of torrenting is legal – BitTorrent is just a peer-to-peer method for downloading which happens to have many legal uses.

In fact, there’s a pretty high demand for music as it doesn’t take much before you’ve already spent $100 to fill your iPod by about 5%. The most popular torrent client, uTorrent, has been getting a lot of extra effort put into it to simplify its use while expanding its feature set. I must say that the uTorrent developers have done an excellent job to do all of this while still keeping the program lightweight. One of the newer features that you’ll find is called add-ons.
