The Bing vs. Google race has just become tighter with the launch of Bing's new Pinterest integration. The new feature adds a handy "Pin it" button to every image result on Bing, making it possible to pin it to your Pinterest boards without needing to go to the actual website, or even open the full-size version of the image.

Klout is now factoring in Instagram and Bing as another metric of your social-media influence and Klout score. A busy presence on Instagram, which previously meant nothing for your Klout score, can now give it a serious boost. if you're not very active on Instagram, it could affect your score the other way. Your most popular photos will also appear in your Klout Moments.

Bing has finally introduced a time filter that enables search results by time period. This has been a regular Google search feature for quite some time, but late or not, you can finally get down to distilling the fresh from the stale on Bin search, especially if you are searching for news. Filtering search results by time works the same as any other filter and includes four time range options on the search results page.

The Google search engine is a fantastic resource for those of us who spend half our lives online, hence its inclusion in the list of the 7 wonders of the Web, but it isn't the only one of its kind. Bing’s Social Sidebar is going deeper into Facebook. Bing says the new Social Sidebar is multiplying the information you retrieve from your social circle by a factor of ‘five’. Microsoft calls it 5x. In simple terms, Facebook is now more searchable with status updates, shared links, comments and photos from your friends on the sidebar.

By many accounts, Bing is really giving Google a run for its money. On November 6th of this year, the Guardian reported that Google's search share in the UK dipped under 90% as Bing's share continued to climb. Now, I've always been one to cheer for the underdog, mostly because I never like the see the formation of a monopoly. However, is this really about real competition? Does Bing really have what it takes to go head-to-head and win against Google?

But with the Bing It On Challenge, Microsoft and Bing seem to have thrown the gauntlet at Google. The Bing It On Challenge is an online search test that anyone can do, and which supposedly shows that Bing gives better search results over Google.

We reach for Facebook when it comes to photo sharing with friends on the web. All those accumulated memories are a resource when you are searching about something. Bing makes it slightly easier to connect photos and search now with a new feature called Friends’ Photo. Bing being a search engine first and foremost, it is obvious the new feature is meant for searching and browsing through all shared albums and photos in your Facebook social circle.

Bing could make smashing comeback of sorts, as it has been completely re-imagined for Windows 8. The video discussion on the Bing blog shows Microsoft’s Stefan Weitz giving a preview using a Microsoft Windows 8 tablet of what the ‘new’ Bing could offer. A richer and more ‘immersive’ search experience is definitely on the cards.

If you ever decide to play a little game of word association, and someone says "search on the Internet", the chances are you will immediately reply "Google". "To Google" has become the everyday verb for searching online, due to the site's near-total dominance in the search industry. But I say "near-total" because one search engine, despite operating at a loss, is making themselves a continual irritant, and an obstacle to Google's aim of total Internet domination.
