Read More to a number of its services, and now YouTube has been given a lick of paint with the new “Cosmic Panda” update. The redesign features a darker colour scheme, with videos nestled on a dark grey background with advertising space on either side.

Playlists and channel lists appear alongside the video, but in a similar location below. Comments and related videos can be toggled and appear in the usual comment position, and there is a new widget for toggling video size and full screen. Aside from these tweaks, the general layout for videos remains the same.

Channel owners will benefit from the update as more page designs become available, for greater control over content. We’ve snapped a shot of old YouTube and Cosmic Panda so you can see the results for yourself below.

    I definitely like it, even though it has some flaws that a mortal person wouldn't recognize. High five, Google!

    i like it, it separates the video from other things (like megavideo) but recommendation videos are too big and i can't see the thumbs up clear
    i also like that there is a separate search tab for music

    The name "Panda" actually reminds me of the so-called Panda Algorithm update that Google rolled out a couple months ago. As for the change in YouTube's color palette, I would say it seems 'cosmetic' as of now rather than 'cosmic'. I'm just happy to have YouTube the way it is.

    Inconsistent page background colour makes it look like a CSS error or an unfinished project.

    Either go Grey/Black for the whole page or stick with White all over - NOT both.
