Whatever you think of the idea of “celebrity,” YouTube has its own breed of personalities who have as much right to own that title as any actor, singer, or reality television star. These are the people who are guaranteed tens of thousands of views for every video they upload to the site, regardless of the quality or subject matter. But which YouTube star is your personal favorite?

However, the question this time is slightly different, focusing on the people in the videos you love watching.

The subject matter is immaterial. As is the style of filming, and the regularity of posting, and anything else you care to mention. All that matters is the personality creating and starring in the videos themselves. People such as PewDiePie, Freddie Wong, Alfie Deyes, John Green, Ryan Higa, and Philip DeFranco.

Something that has become very clear of late is that it’s the people fronting these videos that allow a channel to grow in popularity. Fans of these YouTube stars will return time and time again, in the same way people will keep buying albums by their favorite singers or seeing movies starring their favorite actors.

YouTube has realized this in a big way, and is throwing money and resources at the biggest and best vloggers and content creators in order to keep them on the site. JackSepticEye!!!
I watch his videos every single day! That guy is super funy, super loud, and full of energy and happiness. Always a great way to start a day in public transportation while going to work.
For those who don't know him, he plays video games like PewDiePie does. But Jack is more consistent and way more funny that Pewds... and he is very humble and close to his subscribers (taking time to asnwer comments, inform people, maintain a great atmosphere within the channel).

    Check his videos right now!

Hannah Hart. I've been even more impressed with her appearances outside her own comedy series (My Drunk Kitchen). She's been on Comedy Central's @Midnight several times and she's definitely funny enough to be on that stage, but she's also charming and sincere on the channel she uses for more personal content (YourHarto) in a way that some of the other top-tier personalities (Jenna Marbles et al) can't seem to manage.

I have a certain admiration for the rapidity with which the Epic Meal Time guys sold out. They have a TV show now. Someone decided that the gag which is funny for five minutes at a stretch needed to be surrounded by reality TV BS. It is awful, but the crew seems to know it even from the first moment. Their best work was probably Epic Chef, which my roommate and I watched as appointment viewing as new episodes were released.

I'll mention Jeyne Butterfly. I have an excuse. My roommate aspires to that level of skill. Just maybe don't look that one up while you're at work.

    Two more:

improvelectronic, a music professor whose party trick is the ability to improvise in the style of numerous composers (The Imperial March in the Style of Beethoven, for example). He's decidedly not a celebrity, but what he does is amazing.

Eric Whitacre, whose virtual choir is an amazing use for Youtube as a platform. I don't like virtual choir 4, but Sleep is something that I show people when I try to explain that Youtube is more than movie trailers and cat videos.
