If you’re an avid user and reviewer on Yelp, you might be pleased to know that you can now add customer reviews of businesses via the website’s iOS app. Users of the app have requested this feature since it was first released.
For those who don’t know, Yelp is a free online site founded in 2004 for the purpose of helping people locate businesses, automobile services, great restaurants, hair stylists, and the like. The site features over 42 million local customer reviews that rate and describe the services that businesses provide. It’s also a social networking site for making contacts, finding local events, and having conversations about food, travel, sports, politics, etc.
The Yelp app essentially mirrors the website, except until the recent 7.0.1 update it didn’t allow users to write reviews. That feature is now prominently placed alongside the Add Photo, Check In, and Bookmark buttons when you click on or add a business to review.
You can of course post a rating with your review, and the text window includes a sample guide review. The new feedback feature has been a part of similar consumer review apps like Foursquare, Groupon, and Facebook.
The Yelp app also allows you to search for businesses near you, narrow your searches by neighborhood, distance, price, and what’s open now. You can add tips and photos, as well as make reservations on the OpenTable without leaving the Yelp app.
Many of the customer comments on the iTunes page for the app are favorable, but let us know what you think. Are you a regular user of Yelp?
