yandexdisk Yandex Opens Their Cloud Storage Solution To The Public With Up To 20Gb Free Storage [Updates]Russian search giant Yandex has had their own invite-only cloud storage solution on the market for a while now, and they have just opened it up so anyone can sign up and get their free storage. Of course, cloud storage services are available from an almost limitless amount of providers, but Yandex.Disk offers an abnormally high amount of space without having to sign up for any kind of premium account.

To start with, all new users will get 10GB of free space, which is quite high when compared to some its competitors. Users can double their available space to 20GB by referring friends to the service. Finding friends to refer should be quite easy when they realize how much space they will get to store their important music, documents and other files.

To get your free Yandex.Disk account, simply head over to disk.yandex.com and click the giant yellow “Log In” button. From here you will be able to sign in to an existing account or create a new one. You can create an account manually or use one of your social networks to sign up.

too much options avaliable now, and i am confused which is the best to use

True, I still wouldn’t be too comfortable to use the cloud for every thing so I wouldn’t necessarily need so much space on the cloud. Dropbox, Box.com, etc.

I’m on a connection that usually gives me 50mbps up/down. I’m getting 400kbps on Yandex when syncing the folders. This is a joke. If I wanted lots of cheap space that I can’t really use because it’s too slow, I’d use Google Drive. It’s like saying that there is a lot of free space in the arctic. Sure, but I’m not going to build a put put golf course there.

I have been using yandex for a month now. The only problem was the Russian interface. Otherwise I found it to be very good.

From below, to get additional 10Gb space we need to have 20 invites….

Hidden info:
You’ll receive an extra 0.5 GB of storage for each person you invite to Yandex.Disk, while each person invited will receive 1 GB*
* The extra storage will be added once your friend installs the “Yandex.Disk” application

which interface are you referring to? The desktop app?

GrrGrrr

both the web interface & desktop app. they were in Russian earlier when I had signed.

I’d be curious to know how many users of Yandex (search, Disk) are also users of their webmail service.

I signed up with them after reading a thread on it at the emaildiscussions forum (EMD). I had an issue and a question or two regarding their feed reader, and — to my surprise — despite the company having given me the impression that it’s the Russian version of Google or Yahoo (big, impersonal, etc.), I received a *personal* reply to my query within about 72 hrs. That certainly impressed me. And, as a result, I’ve continued to test their services to see if I want to make them more of a routine part of my day. That’s why I asked the above question. :-)

On a side note, I’m not exactly sure how I feel (or how I should feel) about using this Russian company for personal email, files, etc. I obviously don’t want to start asking political questions here, but I’d be curious to know if there’s a site (that I haven’t found yet) where I *can* ask such questions about this service. I’d like to like it and trust it, since it does have some very nice features that I like more than the competition (Google, Yahoo, MS, etc.).

Thanks for any input ! :-)

This service has surely given a huge amount of Sace for its users but the catch is, is it safe to use it.

Is the privacy maintained??
Are they having access to our documents and other things or not??

Ahmed Khalil

Still this poit not clear, as if it is not this mean it work as a hard disk only, and in this case i see it will fail as other competators provide access to office files which is more inportant

I am beginning to wonder if there is any need at all for most users to pay for cloud storage. Just wondering, is there a service that lets you access Google Drive, SkyDrive and the like from one place?

Thanks for the article. Will give it a try. Using dropbox with 50GB+ free storage for 2 years. Might need this when dropbox free storage expires.
