There are numerous improvements that this app makes to the native Finder. These improvements can be enabled selectively through the preferences of Mac OS X 10.6.8 to 10.8.2.

You can enable the experimental tabs in the app, set the folders to appear on top, assign global hotkeys, copy paths, show hidden items, copy and move files to specific locations, and a lot more. To make icons stand out more, you can also have the app put color back into the sidebar.
