Great article. Would be helpful if you compared WPA to the security with MAC addresses. Still trying to figure out which is more secure.

That's a very good suggestion and certainly the best method! However, if you want to use WiFi on a device like your phone or a game console, it may not be practicable.

Wpa has been cracked and the tools are already built into free penetration testing suites like backtrack. but to crack Wpa you need a lot of time because you need to capture a bunch of log-ons and then spend about 3 weeks brute forcing them. so your still not safe from the NSA but your safe from most ten year olds stealing your wifi. and once it can be cracked in a matter of minuites like Wep a new, more secure standard will come along.

You're right Josh, thanks for clarifying! Generally, the latest generation of encoding is the most secure, in this case WPA2.

Thanks for the input Daniel, I had not heard about that one before. But I have to admit I'm not an expert and relied on the articles I read while researching for this article.

[...] and it’s only a matter of time until WPA will be hacked.

I was under the impression that WPA and WPA2 had already been cracked once by a Russian group using Nvidia based GPUs and CUDA, which netted a significant improvement in speed over using the CPU.
