Whitelist for Chrome is a free to use browser tool that helps Internet surfers get a more focused browsing experience. Many times we find ourselves interrupting our online work by visiting distracting sites such as YouTube and Facebook. But the list of distracting websites is a long one and it does not end on those two names - users can click on one non-work related link and before they know, 30 minutes go by without them getting any actual work done.

There are tools that blacklist distracting websites but this solution does not work fully effectively because you never know what the distracting websites list should contain i.e. the list is never complete. A better approach is a whitelist approach which enables you to approve access to only the sites that use for work. This is precisely what is made possible by this browser tool.

This browser extension for Google Chrome lets you set up a whitelist in a very simple manner. All you have to do is install the extension and then go to its Options page. There you will find the Google, Yahoo, and Bing (the popular search engines) already added to the whitelist. You can build from there and keep adding the websites that you use for work.

Once you are done making the changes, you must remember to the click on the Save button present on the page. With the list saved, any page you try to visit in Chrome that is not on the list is blocked and you are shown an appropriate message, like in the screenshot below.

Features:

  • A user friendly browser extension.
  • Compatible with Google Chrome.
  • Lets you setup a whitelist for Google Chrome websites.
  • Blocks websites not in whitelist and shows an appropriate message.
