Which Gadgets Are On Your Christmas List? [We Ask You]

There’s less than a month to go before Christmas arrives, which, for those of us who celebrate it, means spending time with family and friends, eating and drinking too much, and exchanging gifts. If you do give and receive presents at this time of year, I would hope you’ve already written out your list. Unless you want to force your loved ones to go out shopping on Christmas Eve.

We’re not interested in how many pairs of socks you want, or which celebrity fragrance you desire. Instead we want to know which gadgets you’re hoping to receive for Christmas this year. Those who don’t celebrate Christmas are not excluded from this discussion. Just let us know which gadgets are on your wishlist at the moment. whether you’re hoping someone else will buy them for you or whether you’re looking to buy them for yourself.

This Week’s Question…

What Gadgets Are On Your Christmas List?

Black Friday has already come and gone, with the U.S. and other countries kicking off the holiday season with a massive blowout of spectacular savings and carnivorous consumerism. Whether you go shopping on Black Friday or not you’re invited to vote in the poll concerning this epic day for bricks-and-mortar retailers.

Now that we’re in the holiday season and the number of shopping days to Christmas is declining fast, we want to know what gadget or gadgets are at the top of your list. I cannot promise that revealing your innermost desires means you’ll end up receiving said gadget, but you never know who is reading MakeUseOf, and perhaps someone you know will take the hint.

The range of gadgets you could ask for is vast. Would you like a new Windows 8 computer or a better-than-ever Mac? Does Apple feature heavily on your list, with the latest iPad or iPhone calling out to you? How about a Wii U from Nintendo, or do you have your eye on a Raspberry Pi? How about a new television, which seem to be getting larger, smarter, and clearer with every month that passes?

You can even go off the well-trodden path and tell us about a gadget that isn’t as mainstream as those mentioned above. As long as the gadget or gadgets you mention are actually on your wishlist — and I will be asking for proof — then we’d like to hear from you. Feel free to embellish your answer with the reasoning behind your choice of gadget. And perhaps tell us what the likelihood is that you’ll receive one before the end of 2012.

Drawing Conclusions

All comments will be digested to form conclusions in a follow-up post next week where we will detail what You Told Us. One reader will be chosen for the coveted Comment Of The Week, getting their name up in lights, the respect of other readers, and 150 MakeUseOf points to use for MakeUseOf Rewards. What more motivation than that do you need to respond?

We Ask You is a weekly column dedicated to finding out the opinions of MakeUseOf readers. The questions asked are usually open-ended and likely to necessitate a discussion. Some are opinion-based, while others see you sharing tips and advice, or advocating tools and apps to fellow MakeUseOf Readers. This column is nothing without you, as MakeUseOf is nothing without you.

Early next year, I’m afraid. So maybe next Christmas… if Microsoft has sold enough to warrant carrying on making them.

Oh! It breaks my heart! Surface.com just now got updated with the Surface Pro details, its $899 plus it will be available early 2013 as you said. I might think of buying something else then… Still thinking…

Instead of an iPad I would also be hoping/looking to buy a Windows Surface Pro table…when it comes down at a reasonable price. Cannot even think about buying it right now!!!

Though India has a sizable Christian population, we are majorly a Hindu majority country. However, we still have embraced Christmas and New year and enjoy the festivity in full swing. Me hailing from Kolkata, a pre-dominantly bengali region, though we do enjoy Christmas (however, we do not attend mass at church, though the christian community do), our biggest festival where we shop till we drop similarly to christmas shopping is the Durga Puja. However, there is no harm in having my gadget wishlist still and there is no tax in dreaming what I would like to have. :P So here it goes:

APPLE -> New iPAD 64GB with WiFi+4GLTE 4th. Gen, iPAD Mini highest model, iPhone 5 64GB, MacBook AIR
Google -> Nexus 4 highest spec, Nexus 7 with cellular 3G
    Samsung -> Tablet P800, Tab2 7 P310, SIII and NoteII
Microsoft -> Surface RT (unfortunately, Pro not launched yet)
Gaming console -> XBOX 360, Sony PSP3 and the best spec 3D TV to match

Hehehe :) :P need a awesome number of rocking friends for this to ever come true and I do not own a single of the wishlisted item. Dream on, dream on, dream on!!!

Thank you for taking part even though Christmas isn’t all that meaningful to you. To be honest many westerners see it as a consumer-led holiday rather than a religious one now.

That’s quite a list you have there. If you had to choose just one what would it be?

      • Rajaa Chowdhury November 30, 2012

Just one?….mmmm? would be either a MacBook AIR or a XBOX 360. Very undecided between the two.

I hate LG personally, no explainable reason. But whenever it’s my turn to buy a phone, LG comes out with the meanest device in the crowd!
Last time i went with LG Optimus One and this time it’s LG Google Nexus 4.
So yes, I’ll get a Nexus 4 and yes I still hate LG!

This year am getting an Ainol tablet, still in the shipping and delivery process though. Thats because I’ll need the USB host function for flash drives and external keyboard.
Second is a Tripod Mount for my Nokia N8. This will be great for stills and videos.
And the last for ending this year in a much better way would be a 51″ Plasma TV Panasonic or LG. This will replace our old 34″ CRT Hisense TV, which is playing HD content from a media player through AV component. The new TV will be my gift to the family.

A 51″ plasma would be good. I always thought 40″ would be too big, but then I bought one and realized I could have gone much bigger. Even in a small house!

Went to an electronics store today, the LG 50″ Plasma retails at Rs29,000. Thats about $910. Still am tempted to buy one so my family could enjoy this beauty. I will definitely buy this one, well if the end of year bonus brings more pay!!
        Oh and happy shopping guys…

I’d like to have a lot of stuff this Christmas.
The first is a 1TB external HDD because I’m almost out of storage space, and storing my music/movies/tv series on that HDD would be nice.
The second thing I’d like to have is the Nexus 4. Having a Nokia X3 just doesn’t quite get me through the day, and I quite like the Nexus.
I’m a computer freak, and I alwys like to make projects of my own and stuff. the one I would really like to do is a cluster project, combining lots of motherboards together to create one super computer that is powerful enough to fulfill my computing needs. So the last thing I’d like to have is a lot of GIGABYTE boards to have fun with.

I would like to get a killer laptop to give to my son. Things are pretty tight this year and I don’t know if I can get him one this year. He also wants a Kindle Fire HD. I know this is supposed to be my wish but that would make me happy.
Of course, is someone happened to toss a PS3 with Assassin’s Creed under the tree with my name on it I wouldn’t be disappointed.

There are some great laptops that shouldn’t break the bank out there, especially if you shop around for old Windows 7 stock now that Windows 8 is out.

I want an e-book reader. And an Android tablet so I can finally know what the hype is all about. Or a new dedicated laptop. Or an external harddisk. Anyone feeling generous enough? Because I don’t celebrate Christmas.
