I have a 3GS and am so glad to be able to get this, all these new features look fantastic. Hopefully I’ll have money soon to upgrade (I’m planning to buy outright instead of commit to another long contract).

Not an awful lot. Specifically, most of the features above that are in any way cool, wont work for you. 3d maps, turn by turn, siri; none of that. You get the general enhancements, icloud stuff, photo sharing. In fairness, the chip to support those advanced bits just isnt there, nor is there a GPS. I wouldn’t expect a music player to do an awful lot, but at least you’ll still be able to install ios6 at all so you can continue to get apps as theyre updated. Spare a thought for 3rd gen ipod owners or original ipad owners who won’t get anything…!

Almost all of the buzz around iOS6 focuses on the iPad and to a lesser extent the iPhone. The article mentions the compatibility, but what exactly is in it for a 4th Gen iPod owner like me?

I can’t stand Apple products…non-standard connectors (iPod/iPhone dock connector, not an industry standard), walled gardens (iTunes), slowly moving everybody to the App Store (it’s begun on Macs already…Apple takes a non-negotiable 30% cut!)

I’ll stick to Windows, Linux, and Android, thank you very much!

I can live without siri. I think the remind me later feature on the phone app is cool as is the passbook

There are numerous credits given for mapping services, but I believe the actual map data is taken from OpenStreetMaps, while additional traffic services, routing etc all come from numerous sources, including TomTom.

I do not think it is accurate to say that the maps are replaces by Open Street Maps. We do not know exactly where the maps are from. Based on various reports, they are a mix of the maps from a bunch of different sources.
