The days of yore when you and a group of friends would plan a night in playing video games together while supping a few beers and ordering takeaway are now over, for the most part. Some of us still enjoy the old-skool delights of offline multiplayer sessions, and the Nintendo Wii certainly helped stave off the pastime’s demise for a few years. However, its days are numbered, whether you want to believe it or not.
It’s all about the online multiplayer now, with people generally preferring to play strangers in dim and distant lands than friends sat next to them on the sofa. Whatever your views are on this evolution in multiplayer gaming, it’s the reality of the situation, so it’s better to embrace it and have fun rather than ignore it and find yourself shunted to the sidelines.
This Week’s Question…
We want to know, What Is The Best Video Game To Play Online? This question comes hot on the heels of the launch of GTA Online, a free-to-play multiplayer game for anyone who owns a copy of GTA V. Its first few days were blighted by connection issues and frustrating bugginess, as can be seen in one of these videos, but GTA Online is now fully up and running. And lots and lots of fun.
As much fun as GTA Online is, it’s far from being the only game in town, both literally and figuratively. We are seeking advice from veteran online gamers over which games are the best to play over the Internetz. This is a chance to pass your wisdom on to n00bs… n00bs such as Rihanna (seen below trying to look geeky).
It doesn’t matter whether your choice is a console game or a PC game, as long as it’s game that you love playing online and which you think others will also love playing online. All genres are welcome, from first-person shooters to MMORPGs, and it doesn’t matter whether these are full-priced or free-to-play titles.
As is the way with We Ask You, we don’t want you to simply drop a name into the conversation and then disappear. Instead, tell us why you love playing your online game of choice. What is it that makes the experience so good? What separates this game from the competition?
All comments will be digested to form conclusions in a follow-up post next week where we will detail the We Ask You Results. One reader will even win Comment Of The Week, which will be included in the follow-up post! What more motivation than that do you need to respond?
We Ask You is a weekly column dedicated to finding out the opinions of MakeUseOf readers. The questions asked are usually open-ended and likely to necessitate a discussion. Some are opinion-based, while others see you sharing tips and advice, or advocating tools and apps to the MakeUseOf readership. This column is nothing without you, as MakeUseOf is nothing without you.
