Welcome to the MakeUseOf.com Podcast #1

Jason MayoffWelcome one and all to the debut of the Make Use Of audio podcast! Every Sunday, I will be presenting a short show where I will be going over recently published posts on the site and also one of the Make Use Of writers will appear to be interviewed. This week, it’s the creator and overlord of Make Use Of, Aibek Esengulov!

This is a great opportunity for you, the reader, to put a voice to the Make Use Of writers. Instead of just reading the words, you can now listen to the writers that create those words, listen to their personality, hear about their motivations and laugh along to any bloopers that might happen along the way.

If you look underneath the show notes on this page, you will see a little media player where you can listen to the podcast right here on the site. Or if you prefer, you can right-click on the “audio MP3″ logo and save the MP3 file to your computer for listening on your MP3 player or iPod.

Later on, we will be submitting our podcasts automatically to iTunes and other podcast directories and when we get that set up, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Since this is our first podcast, feedback from the readers is absolutely essential! Please post any comments you have about the episode, how we can improve it and make it more interesting. What would you like to hear in the podcast? What don’t you want to hear?

After listening, please submit your comments below on this page or you can also send me an e-mail with a question or comment.

Show notes:

The music used in the podcast is courtesy the Podsafe Music Network. Thanks.

Wow, Jason, what a great voice! You should be doing voice over for a living!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the positive comments, although I’m prepared for the negative ones. I can take it.

And, Nik, I do a little voiceover, actually, but I’m always willing to do more. In my day job I’m a radio newscaster.

I love it, sounds very professional, but are you going to make a different feed for the podcast? So I can add that one to my podcatcher?

Jason, you totally sound like the guy who speaks advertisements on AFN (American Forces Network). Is it a coincidence, is that you or are you just using the same tool to tweak your voice?

I love the first podcast, it’s awesome! But may I suggest to speak a tiny little bit slower for all the non native speakers out there?

It would be nice to have a URL of the podcast RSS feed subscription.

:-) Did I not mention it ? Sorry… Just so you know, I LOVE India.

Make Use Of’s little tech gremlins are working feverishly at the moment to get the podcast on iTunes and to get a feed you can use to subscribe with any other podcatcher.

The “Official” MakeUseOf.com podcast URI is http://feeds.feedburner.com/MUO-podcast.

Feel free to add that to your podcatchers so you don’t miss Jason’s weekly show here on MUO.

    Sounds good.

Excellent start and a great voice – I look forward to listening to future episodes. I love the website and the podcast extension is great – although I found that absorbing all the information (like the top 10 websites) to be a bit of a challenge if I’m not in front of the computer at the time.

As a suggestion for future episodes I’d like to hear – how about a personal review of a site/program that you use and why you find it so useful?

And I’d like to understand about the makeusof trackback system … I don’t understand how it works and if I am allowed to link articles from makeuseof.com to my website.

    • Jason Mayoff

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that all that info at once may be a bit overwhelming. We’ll be playing with some different formats for the podcast to try to make all that a little more digestible.

As far as linking to Make Use Of articles from your site, I would say link to your heart’s content — but maybe I’m wrong. Mark, Aibek?

    Don’t forget us Zune-ies!

  • http://alekdavis.blogspot.com Alek Davis

Jason: Would it be possible to create a podcast URL that is not only iPod-user-friendly? I cannot make Bloglines or my Zune recognize http://feeds.feedburner.com/MUO-podcast (or http://feeds.feedburner.com/MUO-podcast?format=xml). This would be awesome. Thanks.

    • http://alekdavis.blogspot.com Alek Davis

O-ops, I take my comment back: the specified URL works for Zune (must have been a firewall issue). So thank you, I’m going to listen to this podcast. ;-)
