This type of application is an organizer's wet dream and greatly appeals to the latent pedant in me. I love to have everything organized, documented and filed where I can lay my hand on it immediately at any time of the day or night. And if you have a number of properties as I do(or rather the bank does), then it is only practical to have all this information on hand. You would not believe the difficulty you encounter when you need to get something repaired or even order a part for it and if you dont have all the details on hand it delays the process for days if not weeks. Now you know what I will be doing this weekend!

I agree! An alternative that is easier, faster, but perhaps not as good, is too walk through the house with your camcorder or camera and photograph everything. If you are using a camcorder, don't go too fast. And no matter how you take inventory, always include you clothes! Many people overlook their clothes, but you would be amazed at the dollar replacement value of your clothing!
