Dropbox has created a new app just for the Xbox One. This means Xbox One owners can now install Dropbox directly onto their games console. And doing so will allow them to access and organize their files from the comfort of their favorite armchair.
The Xbox One essentially runs on Windows 10, which makes it extremely easy for developers to bring their Windows apps to Microsoft’s games console. Various universal Windows apps have already found their way onto the Xbox One, and now Dropbox has joined in the party.
Dropbox for Xbox One lets you manage all of your various files using a new interface optimized for TVs and designed to be used with an Xbox One controller or media remote. You can also upload new files, leave comments on existing files, or share files old and new with your friends.
As an added bonus, you can also stream videos directly from the Dropbox app for Xbox One. This will save you from having to download the files at all, thus saving precious hard drive space.
Bringing Dropbox to the Big Screen
Dropbox is already available across multiple platforms, making your files easily accessible whether you’re using a computer, a phone, or a tablet. However, Dropbox has never before been accessible on your TV. Which is a shame given that it’s the biggest screen in your house.
The Dropbox app for Xbox One is, according to Dropbox, “the first universal Windows app for cloud storage on the gaming console”. However, given that access to the cloud is one of many constantly requested by Xbox One owners, it probably won’t be the last app to fill that void.
You can download the Dropbox app from the Xbox Store for free right now.
Do you own an Xbox One? If so, will you be making use of the new Dropbox app for Xbox One? How do you see yourself using it? What other universal Windows apps do you want to see ported to the Xbox One? Please let us know in the comments below!
