I'm also a sysadmin, but my rule about driver updates is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I've seen more people get into trouble because of needless driver updates than because their driver was old.

If you have a problem with a particular driver, then try updating to the latest one, but if the device is working, don't mess with it. Why go looking for trouble?

I'm sure this program does exactly what it is meant to do, I just wouldn't use it.

It wasn't much help and had to rolled back my original drivers. It found 7 devices to update, only 2 were correct, while the others were blatantly incorrect. They were either for another companies product or older then my drivers now.

Well it DIDN'T work for me :( I downloaded and installed a printer driver and now my printer won't work! I had to go online and find out how to rollback to my old printer. I'm not so tech savvy so i ended up wasting hours on this. When I told my husband, he gave me a monologue about 'free tools'.

Nice article, I wondered if a program like this existed.

Any advice on whether to go with the Windows Device Managers word or Device Doctor's word when one tells you that a device needs updating and the the other (Windows in this case) doesn't?
