If you’re using 8.04 you should seriously consider upgrading sometime soon, particularly if you want to try bleeding-edge stuff like Hotot. It’s not that you have to, it’s just that using the latest software works better on a newer version of Ubuntu. And it’s easier.

version 8.04. I tried the “Software Sources” it doesn’t allow me to add PPA. It does allow me to write the APT line but doesn’t allow it to go further and add one.
As i said before I recently added a planetFX PPA though command line but in Software Sources I can’t see it although I can see the PublicKey of the application under the Authentication tab.

What version of Ubuntu are you using? The command “apt-add-repository” won’t work on older versions, so you’ll have to add it all manually. Even if you do, there’s no guarantee Hotot will work. The “Software Sources” tool will work, and then you’ll have to add the key. Here’s a video for that:

I tried that command earlier but it didn’t work then so i tried it again here are the results:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hotot-team
sudo: add-apt-repository: command not found

I thought one needs to give complete address of the repository, but here is a problem with command. May be one requires some other dependencies installed so that your command works.

Because of this article today i added a PPA of planetFX. I could do it because of the instructions there. I came across PublicKey. What is it? Why it asked me to remove immediately after its job was done?.

Is PPA, same as adding address of the repository in the “Software Sources>Third-Party Software”. If so how can you get an address since when i accessed Hotot, It says that there is no packages available in Ubuntu repository nor has a deb file for install.

I like the idea of PPAs but I’m also looking into “rolling release” distros like Linux Mint Debian Edition. Once LMDE matures into a really usable desktop product (still has quite a few bugs), I’ll ditch the 6 month distro cycles.
