Twitter released on Wednesday updates to its mobile apps for iOS (version 5.7) and Android (version 4.1.0). In addition to bug fixes and other improvements, the new apps received a timeline facelift, an enhanced composer feature for sharing photos, a more way convenient to switch to between Twitter accounts, and a new notifications feature for when a friend joins Twitter.
Now, when you want to add a photo to a new tweet, you can use one less tap to get at a preview display of your photos in your camera roll. The Tweet composer also allows you to see a full preview version of your selected photo instead of a cropped one. You still have the option to edit, crop, and add a filter to selected images.
If you have more than one Twitter account, you can now switch to a different account from within the new tweet composer by simply tapping on your avatar (which now appears along with your current username on the top-left corner of the tweet composer) and switching to another account. This new visible avatar feature also helps you to make sure which account, business or personal, you’re tweeting a message from.
Twitter’s location feature has also been also enhanced. Now, when you tap the Location icon, it shows a map of your location, and gives you the ability to turn on and off your location for a particular tweet. The location stamp is also more visible within a new tweet instead of at the bottom of the composer.
For Android devices running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher, the upgrade also includes richer notifications with details such as avatars and an indication of how people are interacting with you (reply, retweet, etc.).
Tell us below what you think of these new features.
