When people think of Reddit, generally, funny pictures and memes are the first thing that comes to mind. It’s true, pictures are a big part of what makes Reddit tick. The world famous Ask Me Anything posts are another big part of Reddit. Celebrities and people from all walks of life jump on r/IAmA and fill us in on whatever we all want to ask.
There is another level of entertainment on Reddit, and that comes in the form of videos. While videos might not be nearly as big as pictures, there are still lots of awesome videos available on Reddit to offer hours of free entertainment to anyone willing to seek them out.
What if I told you there was an awesome way to watch videos for free on Reddit without having to find them at all? Reddit TV is the answer. There is a web-based version of Reddit TV, and if you are on the go, there is a version of it available on iOS called TV for Reddit. This means you can take all the awesome videos posted on Reddit with you anywhere.
Whether you are sitting on the bus or hanging out with boring people, TV for Reddit is the perfect application for watching hours of entertainment anywhere.
If you’ve never been on Reddit before, you may not realize that some of the content is not safe for work, and the same holds true for the content in this app. It is unfiltered, straight from the various places on Reddit, so you may encounter some videos that contain objectionable content. Just keep that in mind when you are watching videos in the app.
Using The App
When you launch the app for the first time, it will place a quick overlay on the screen that tells you what the different functions of the app do. It’s quite basic, so you should be ready to watch videos quickly and easily.
Like Reddit, the app is based on different sections. By default, it will start you at r/Videos. You can easily scroll through videos by simply swiping left or right on the screen. When you see one you want to watch, you can simply tap it.
The app is designed for you to pick videos based on just the thumbnail, which gives you an idea of what you are getting, but it still leaves an element of surprise. If you like more direct control over what you watch, this app might not be for you, but if you like to go for a ride around the web in video form, you will love it.
To change the subreddit, simply click the name of the subreddit on the bottom left of the screen. The app will pop out a list that lets you choose a different place to watch videos. The list includes some of the most popular places on Reddit to watch videos such as r/funny, r/aww, r/WTF, and more.
If the subreddits supported are not the ones you want to see, fear not, because the application will let you add any other one with ease. To do so, simply open the list and click the “+” sign. Type in a search for the name of the Reddit you want added, and it will bring up a list. Click the one that you like, and the app will scan it for videos. From now on, that subreddit will be stored in your list for access later.
If there is a Reddit you know you will never watch videos from, you can bring up the list and click the “Edit” button to delete them. Once you click edit, just click the red symbol next to the name and click “Delete.” From now on, that subreddit will not be displayed in the list.
While watching a video, the app will leave the thumbnails open on the bottom, so you are not seeing it in full screen. Thankfully, there is a button on the bottom of the screen that lets you get rid of the thumbnails and view the video on your iPad’s whole screen.
If there a video you want to share with your friends, you can tap the button on the top right of the screen and click “Share On Facebook” or “Share by Email.”
