Fans of now Yahoo-owned Tumblr are in for some good news today, as both the iOS and Android versions of its apps have received nifty updates. The updates bring some interesting new features to both mobile platforms, and should prove to be quite useful for anyone who enjoys putting their thoughts on web while on the go.
Tumblr is bringing both versions of the application what it calls “a brand new discovery experience.” Much like Twitter, the app now lets users see trending hashtags and blogs to show what is popular around the service. Facebook recently launched hashtags on its social network as a way of unifying the content being shared, and Tumblr certainly has a similar goal with this update for mobile.
Of course, users can search through the various tags and blogs manually, so if the topic someone is looking for is not currently trending across the service, it is still possible to find out what others have to say on the matter.
When a user searches or browses tags, Tumblr will show them new blogs to follow that may be of interest to them based on those searches. For people looking to expand their horizons and find new and interesting people to follow on the blogging platform, this feature should come in handy.
These updates are actually the first the blogging service has issued for its mobile applications since it was acquired by Yahoo in the massive deal that saw Tumblr sell for over $1 billion.
