Hi, in previous post you recommended Defraggler as defragmenter tool… I have been using it without a problem and I am quite satisfied. Would you recommend to move to Total Defrag 2009 Special Edition?

I too like Paragon’s products, but in this case I prefer JKDefrag http://www.kessels.com/Jkdefrag/ , which is both a defragger and and optimiser. The user interface is very basic, but if that bothers you you can get a front-end for it from elsewhere, there are plenty about.

Just too bad that this piece of shit sad excuse for a defragger, can’t even analyze a normal XP partition without having to reboot and spend half an hour to analyze about 10% of a bloody 110 GB drive.

Even Microsofts crap is faster than this.

Not having any success registering the product thru the method you described. It reports that the serial number is already registered, but has no effect of fully-enabling the trial edition.

Ok, but what is “the catch” – ie how is it hobbled as most SE versions are?. I still remember one memorable back-up program that was pushed a few years back, the SE allowed you to safely archive to an encrypted file – but you had to buy it to restore the backup!

Well you gain the ability to fragment the Master file table which you can not do from the built in defragger.

Check this quote out from Cnet:

Paragon Total Defrag 2009 allows you to speed up and optimize all critical system files and metadata including MFT (Master File Table), directories, paging files, registry hives and others. Unlike other defragmenters, Paragon Total Defrag requires less than 1% of free space on the hard drive to operate.

Version 2009 build 5905 has defragmentation of GPT disks as well as MBR disks, defragmentation of dynamic volumes, defragmentation mode: fast or safe, safe mode is slower but it protects your data even in case of a power failure during defragmentation.

First off the built in Vista defrag tool is the same one that was in XP with a different gui. It sucks. You have no options and it will bog your system down. Where as this gives you options and seems to be easier on the system.

For a normal Joe user the built in method is fine and dandy but as a MUO reader chances are you want a little more bang for your (free) buck.
