Don't forget to try memorize.com. The flexible format for creating pages is very good for certain types of content. Check out http://memorize.com/greek-alphabet or http://memorize.com/mideast-geography for a page with a diagram.

I would also suggest to try: flash cards + adaptive learning algorithms = omnimemo. It builds model of your learning curve and computes optimum intervals between repetitions.

This is really helpful information... Thanks. Just recently I had a customer come to me looking to design and produce a set of flashcards and I had no idea where to start in terms of offering her advice.

@Francis: It is difficult to review all content for a provider of a flash card trainer. Just imagine, we have thousands of cards created by university students in more than 100 topics. To check the content I need 100 experts (professors) who could check the content. If I pay the salary of 100 people, i can stop offering Cobocards.

The second point is possible with Cobocards (to copy the cards of others and edit them).

The main problem I have with most flashcard sharing sites is trustworthiness in the content. A lot of the time I am left wondering is the content submitted by its users accurate? I suppose most of the time it is, but I always have to double-check just to make sure I'm not committing nonsense to memory.

Another problem is how the users organise their flashcards. It's often very specific to their own individual needs, and you might have to setup your own flashcards anyway.

And that leads me to the third major problem which is duplication of content.

To me, the best solution is a mix of trusted content provided and verified by the website provider but with tools where you can then go off and modify the given stuff to suit your own needs.
