iOS users who love playing games and using apps on the go, but hate spending big money, are in for a treat as some of the best apps ever released on the platform are now free for a limited time. Some of the apps in question usually command a fairly high price, so this is a rare opportunity for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch owners to get some really good stuff without spending a dime.
At first, Apple made no official announcement about this sale. It has since launched a page showcasing each of the apps that have gone free for the duration of the promotion, which seems like it will be the remainder of this week.
ABC News spoke to the developer of one of the free apps called Barefoot World Atlas and he said, “Barefoot World Atlas went free this morning and will remain so all this week to help celebrate five years of the App Store. Today’s promotion is another step down the road to help spread the word.” The app normally sells for $4.99, but the developer explains the decision to participate in the promotion: “The loss of one week’s paid sales is far outweighed by the wider gain in awareness.”
In all, there are five iPhone apps and five games featured in the promotion, and the list is as follows:
- Traktor DJ
- Barefoot World Atlas
- Day One (Journal / Diary)
- How To Cook Everything
- Where’s My Water
- Tiny Wings
- Infinity Blade 2
- Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP
Each of the Apps is available from the App Store and can be found on Apple’s “5 Years of the App Store” page.
